In "Latest Activity" what is automatically shown, and how can we control it?

Using Jamroom

researchcooperative:This note relates to a profile established with a quota that has Forums and Groups assigned to it.

When "Activity Timeline" module is made inactive for this quota, the profile created with this quota still shows a "Latest Activity" panel.

So it seems that the "Latest Activity" panel is not related to the "Activity Timeline" module (which might therefore be better called the "User Timeline") ("Timelines" by definition record historical events aka activities).

They are the same. The Timeline is the "Default" page for profiles, and is not designed to be disabled. You CAN disable it, but you will need to them customize the profile_index.tpl to show the content you want.

Quote:If a group is part of the profile, and has had a discussion posted, then a "Latest Discussions" panel also appears. i.e. If there is no discussion, then no panel appears.

In contrast, whether or not there have been forum posts, the "Latest Activity" panel is displayed and stays blank. Maybe that panel has nothing to with the Forums.

Latest Activity is not related to the forum - it's related to the user timeline.

Quote:If so, then what activities should we expect to see in the "Latest Activity" panel, and is there any simple way to control what appears in the panel?

Yes - think of it as Twitter. Users can:

- manually add an entry to their Timeline
- performing "actions" in the system (create a new song lets say) will add an entry to the users timeline.

Think of the Timeline as "this is what this profile has been doing" and will appear on followers timelines.

Quote:If "Recent Discussions" can be displayed for activity in a Group, why don't we see "Recent Forum Discussions" for activity in a Forum?

You do - it's called "Newest Posts".

Hope this helps!

I'm not seeing any errors on the page - your right sidebar has just floated down below due to the "Photo Shooting and Live Evening" blog entry - looks like it has a table in it that is pushing the width.

lisa:Hi, Brian! Whew! I think I have it cleared up. Yes, the tree was the default tree and nobody was in it so technically it was new, and yes, I deleted the old tree once the people were loaded in. It ended up not being as bad as it originally looked. Thanks! Lisa

I'm glad to hear that - I'm going to testing this in depth in the morning and see if I can replicate what you saw and get it fixed up.

Thanks!

Changing what shows in the Groups Tab on profile pages

Installation and Configuration

Strumelia:So, we have now gotten a drop down link to show what groups we ourselves are members of.
Am I to understand that we likely won't be able to get any further and be able to see the groups that OTHER members are members of?

The issue with that isn't that it can't be done - anything is doable - the problem is that there's really no where to put it. Right now everything at the profile level is a profile item - i.e. audio, groups, whatever - these are things that a profile owns. The list you are looking for is not owned by a profile, but is owned by a user (since users belong to a group - not profiles).

So the root of the issue is that we don't really have a mechanism or place in the UI where we put "lists of user things that are visible to OTHER users", since right now all user lists go in the user menu.

Let me know if that makes sense.

lisa:Yes, I clicked "sync profiles" but all of the people in the gedcom were new. George now has a picture of a woman as his profile, with both of their information in the timeline. I am not even sure who is who.

I am not sure what happened to the sources, but when I click on sources it says there is nothing there. I wasn't terribly far into uploading census records, etc so it isn't a biggie, but the messed up profiles will take some time. Thanks! ~ Lisa

I'm looking through the code here trying to figure this out, but I'm not sure - let me ask a couple more questions:

1) Was the tree you were importing to a "new" tree or did it have existing profiles in it already?

2) after you moved the profiles from the one tree to the other, did you delete the old tree? If so I think I found a path in the code where the sources could be removed - I'm checking on that.

Thanks!

What does jrProfile_is_profile_owner() do?

Jamroom Developers

So that it can adjust menu items, show menu items, hide menu items, etc, - I can think of a number of reasons why it would be good to know. It's currently used to highlight specific menu options depending on what you are viewing.

if you want to remove it, then feel free to remove it - I don't think it will "break" anything, it's just you may not see something highlighted that previously would have been.
