where to find control for tablet menu interface?

Using Jamroom

My main live jr site has always had a link bar type menu when viewed on tablets- and that works fine even on my small iPad mini tablet. And on a phone it has the expected "hamburger" mobile phone type menu, which is working fine too.
But for some reason i can't figure out, my non-live whistle site (which was built starting from a CLONE of my main site) has the phone hamburger type menu on BOTH phones and tablets. Those menus work ok, but I don't want a tiny phone menu icon on tablets since there's plenty of room for regular menu bar links on tablets.

I tried doing this: I copied both my mobile_core.css and tablet_core.css from my main/live site's active SKIN over to my whistle site, to make sure they were both the same files from the correctly working version. Ran integ's, refreshed, etc. That didn't make a difference.

Where and what should I check to force the whistle site to use a tablet style menu rather than a hamburger/phone type menu on tablets, so it's the same as my main live site shows on tablets? Suspecting that would in my active skin somewhere? Something is telling my whistle site to use a teensie phone menu when viewed on tablets... ick!

Can't Like my own Forum threads despite setting 'on'

Using Jamroom

On both my jr sites, I have the 'Like' module configured so that Admions are allowed to Like their own items.
It seems to work fine on most items like videos and photos, and also works fine on Group discussions...I can 'like' all my own items of those.
The only items I CANNOT like are my own Forum threads that I've created. (i use a 'profile forum' for my sites) The Like button is greyed out for me and i can't like my own discussions in my site Forums.
Forum discussions are important enough that I'd like to get this function fixed so that I and my moderators can 'like' our own discussions and thus boost them up in the Activity Feed for others to notice. Thanks!

MailGun

Using Jamroom

Jeff, one tip-
I have the free kickbox 100/per day email checking set on my site, and I created a separate QUOTA (cloned off of regular member quota) I named InvalidEmail. Your Kickbox module has a setting in its Test Email tool whereby you can have it automatically dump members with invalid addresses from each day's 100 test into that special Quota -and turn OFF all their notifications at the same time. This is very useful, because it will filter those members with bad email addys into a quota where you can identify them and decide what to do or just delete them.
You can pay a fee to have Kickbox test all your members at one shot (which I did before migrating from ning to go live). BUT, keeping that 100/per day kickbox tool on and active will ensure that in the future all your member emails are getting properly validated and bad ones are filtered into a visible category with their notif.s turned OFF. You can look over your InvalidEmail Quota once in a while to deal with members who fail the email test. I'm always interested to see members popping up in there.

Wondering if it's good advice or not for me to also suggest- in your jrMailer email module there is a global config where if you are about to send out a newsletter to say all 15,000 members, you can TEMPORARILY throttle the sending of the email to say 5 or 10 per minute. This helps avoid the wrath of mailgun -at least it did when i sent out 5,000 invite/passwords to my new jr site members. Set it back to disabled when all done in your queue. Maybe jrTeam can correct me if this is not helpful advice.

Yet another Ning lameness to not provide a way to 'ever' validate email addresses.

queue depth just keeps increasing

Installation and Configuration

After reading this thread and one other, I went to look at my queue viewr on both my sites and didn't realize there was a huge bunch of stuff hanging there.
I've done the above advice and paused/integcheck/resume/refresh view... and though most of them are now gone I still have this for example (see attached). Should I be worried or do anything else? Can i just use the 'delete all' button to clear out the queue viewer, or is that inadvisable?

Yes I get it- you made a few links to places where you might regularly change a color code or a font style. That's certainly a handy thing. Sometimes when i need to remember where a code setting is in JR, I either just drag a link into a folder and name the shortcut with a description that makes sense, or I jot down a little note to myself in a notebook on my desk. Not too hard for me to do. You've put your 'handy links' right smack in your site footer instead of a folder, where you can access them quickly. But now after a major platform update your links won't work- so maybe it would have been better to actually write down the location rather than create a hotlink? Can you not update your broken links now? How did you create them in the first place- can you not repeat that process?

You keeping hammering on the need for such a list of 'basic/important' shortcuts to be provided to everyone. The thing is, everyone has different settings that they might want to revisit or change from time to time. For example I wouldn't want or need a link to ANY of the six places you've made 'basic' links to- my 'jump to' list to places where I might need to change code regularly is completely different than yours. I don't let my members change their profile backgrounds...I don't keep changing my site font...and I already know where to change my footer and header in my particular skin.

But yes there are dozens of settings that are important to me for MY site, so I make my own links to them or I make notes on where they are located. __Everyone's list of 'basic important settings links' will be different.__ I don't expect the JrTeam to provide a categorized list of all the settings and code locations that all of us might find useful. I figure it's real important for me to learn where things I want are, even if it takes me a while.

I bought the JR platform and I own it and I run my site which I own. It's like I bought a really big house with 100 rooms in it. I moved into the house and at first i got lost wandering around the hallways. I got lost often..it's so big and complex! But after a while of living in it I begin to at least know where the kitchen is and where the linen closet is, and the bathroom and the furnace. I don't expect the realtor to create a map for me to my favorite rooms, and another map for my neighbor who lives in a similar house but has their own favorite rooms...

If it's a setting or code that you changed in your custom skin, then JR skin updates won't change or erase your custom skin modifications.

Zach I just have a private group for me and my moderators. Works very well. I keep it closed to new members unless I'm about to invite a new mod into it temporarily.

FWIW... I tested this as per Lorna's steps on my jr6 site, from windows 7 on Chrome. I wasn't able to produce the glitch.

Following Group discussions when not a member of the group

Using Jamroom

Yes, I agree it would be helpful to have a popup or some sort of message giving members a clue as to why they: A) can't see group discussion replies, and/or B) can't post a reply to a group disucssion.... all because they don't realize they actually have to JOIN the group. :)
