Reversing the order of replies to forum discussion (newest first)

michael:
actually, that will only reverse the order of the items on the page, if there's more than all of the posts on the page thats not going to work. Will only be any good if you are NOT using pagination.
Not sure what you mean by 'not going to work'... what would it show if i did it while having pagination?

How do you backup a skin?

Using Jamroom

Perrie, you may want to consider doing skin change tests by first making a CLONE of your current active skin. Then make your changes on that cloned skin, and make it active to see what effect your changes have. If you mess up then you can just make your original skin active again and delete the clone.

AND I want to move the Reply textbox to the top of page as well (I may have to create a separate thread here for that, I know)
Did you see how to do that in the template? If not, let me know and I will show you where to make the change.

Elise, thanks! yes I did do that in my GROUP Discussions, because I was able to reverse the posts order there to make the newer posts on top. Getting a favorable response from my members on it.
However, in my Profile site-wide forums, It would make no sense to put the reply box on top of the page if the newest posts were still at the bottom of the page, so that's what I would have to focus on first.

btw, in my case I don't want to switch from the Profile Forum setup to the Discussion Forum module, I like how it's currently set on my site.

Reversing the order of replies to forum discussion (newest first)

brian:
1) Profile Forum - does NOT use the Comments module - has it's own handling. You cannot reverse or change anything without creating a custom module

Ok thank you for making this clear for me.
I believe I am using a profile I created named "Forums" that 'owns all my site's discussion forums. (not Group discussions tho of course)

Is it possible for me to get a general idea of the cost of sponsoring a custom module that would order my new forum posts on Top, and also the Reply textbox on top...in my profile Forums?... and if that's do-able by the JR Team if I decide I'd like to pay to have it created?

Some Group pages imported from Ning get 'Not Found'

Using Jamroom

michael:
Might need to add a button for update to the templates, looks like the update button only shows for the owner.
Michael, I'm thinking it's probably best that a page-creating-enabled member cannot edit any pages that I either 'own' or have created, anyway.

Some Group pages imported from Ning get 'Not Found'

Using Jamroom

I transferred ownership of his old pages to me so they now show. I made sure his author name was large and obvious.
I told him he was now enabled to create NEW pages in that group. I also told him if he wanted to be able to EDIT his old pages he'd either have to ask me to do it it for him, OR he could copy/paste all the old page content into a NEW page he creates himself, and then i could delete the old pages.
My site has very few pages anyway, so i think this solves this issue as long as I can actually enable individual members to create pages in a particular group with that nifty settings checkbox...now that I know where it is!
I should ask him to create a test page in that group just to make sure it's working right before I mark this thread solved.

Some Group pages imported from Ning get 'Not Found'

Using Jamroom

Ok, YES, I was looking for the setting for that all OVER the place- thanks!!!
I set Robin to be able to create pages in that Group, and ran integrity/cache etc. But his older pages still don't show, I guess because of their url.
But I assume that means that in GOING FORWARD, this will no longer be a problem- that he will be able to create new valid pages there in the group that i still own- is that right?
----------
Now I guess I will transfer owner to me of his past pages and then play around with the Form Designer as you suggest above. Or maybe just edit his old pages to include his name really big at top of each page. But...he'd not be able to EDIT them though, right?...since they'll now be MY pages?

Some Group pages imported from Ning get 'Not Found'

Using Jamroom

Michael, I was to still be the owner of that group, but I would like to allow Robin (who I do NOT want to make into a profile admin) to make pages in that group, or at least to show him as the person who created those excellent existing pages that were imported from ning. He should have credit for creating those pages of great teaching info.
Is this possible somehow? (Maybe putting him into a special quota, or is there a setting someplace to allow a regular member to make pages in groups?)

Some Group pages imported from Ning get 'Not Found'

Using Jamroom

--Wondering IF the reason is: that only the Group Owner can add Pages to a particular Group? -So maybe because I own that group, the regular member Robins pre-existing ning pages in that group will not show?

Some Group pages imported from Ning get 'Not Found'

Using Jamroom

Just noticing that on a Group I own, there are some Group Pages I imported when migrating from ning...and I had assigned those pages to their proper Group. The pages were created by a regular member Robin, who still 'owns' them. I thought I had these working fine when i migrated a year ago.
I can see the pages listed in my group_page module Tool for re-assigning orphan ning pages. The member has assured me they didn't delete those pages. (My site is set to only allow me to 'create' a group.)
If I create a new Page in the same group, the link brings me to it ok. Here's the weird thing- if i 'change owner' of one of HIS old pages to be ME instead and clearcache, I still get a Not Found.

Any suggestions?
Here is the Group in question: http://fotmd.com/strumelia/group/19/old-style-drone-noter-players
...and the top 'test' Page i just now created works fine. I own the group, but the member Robin created those other Pages when we were on Ning.
