Reversing the order of replies to forum discussion (newest first)

Using Jamroom

I have mine set the same as Elise, and like hers, my Forum posts are not showing up as newest on top either.
I too would like to have them show as newest posts on top. (Maybe that's because i have created a "forums" profile that 'owns' all the site forums?)

AND I want to move the Reply textbox to the top of page as well (I may have to create a separate thread here for that, I know)

how to keep "Now following" out of "latest activity" feed on main page

Ning To Jamroom

Michael- thanks for your very informative post! As an older non-coder, I'm learning step by step as well, and the Doc you linked to for "{jrCore_list}" info is now on my priority reading list...looks very helpful for me. :D

User reports "Stay Logged In" doesn't work

Using Jamroom

It should help in some cases Elise.
However even with these settings, it seems this issue sometimes comes and goes, as the others have noted. Happens to me, my moderators, and my members all occasionally and randomly. Again as others in this thread have said, I've noticed that after a week or two of logging in frequently, it tends to 'stick' for several months before acting up again- so I too believe it may be related to browser updates...which JR has little control over. Tell her she's not alone, and that it tends to resolve itself after a while.

What's the default setting for notifications being sent to members?

Using Jamroom

Try logging in as a regular member quota (not admin) and look at your notification settings. Those will be the same as what your other members see. Keep in mind that when you are loggedin as admin you see stuff that regular members don't see. Do the quick test to be sure of what regular members will be seeing. :)

how to keep "Now following" out of "latest activity" feed on main page

Ning To Jamroom

Joanna, I'm not absolutely sure, but pretty sure it's this code that removes both the 'following' mentions and the personal 'comments' on people's profile pages.
in my active skin's index.tpl :

            {* BEGIN Activity Section *}
            <div class="col8">
                <div class="title m10">
                    <h2>{jrCore_lang skin=$_conf.jrCore_active_skin id="20" default="Latest"} {jrCore_lang skin=$_conf.jrCore_active_skin id="27" default="Activity"}</h2>
                </div>
                {***jrCore_list module="jrAction" search1="action_module != jrFollower" search2="action_data NOT_LIKE %\"comment_module\":\"jrProfile\"%" order_by="_item_id numerical_desc" template="index_activity.tpl" pagebreak=50 page=$_post.p***}
                {jrCore_list module="jrAction" search1="action_module != jrFollower" order_by="_item_id numerical_desc" template="index_activity.tpl" pagebreak=60 page=$_post.p}
            </div>
            {* END Activity Section *}

--You'd have to make adjustments in the above for the column width and pagebreak length for your site's main page.
Hope it works for you!

Joanna, I put mine in my active SKIN's profile_sidebar.tpl
I put it right AFTER (under) this top code section for the profile page member image:
<div class="col3">
    <div>
        <div class="block">
            <div class="profile_image">
                {if jrProfile_is_profile_owner($_profile_id)}
                    {jrCore_module_url module="jrProfile" assign="purl"}
                    {jrCore_lang skin=$_conf.jrCore_active_skin id="7" default="Change Image" assign="hover"}
                    <a href="{$_conf.jrCore_base_url}/{$purl}/settings/profile_id={$_profile_id}">{jrCore_module_function function="jrImage_display" module="jrProfile" type="profile_image" item_id=$_profile_id size="xlarge" class="img_scale img_shadow" alt=$profile_name title=$hover width=false height=false}</a>
                    <div class="profile_hoverimage">
                        <span class="normal" style="font-weight:bold;color:#FFF;">{$hover}</span> {jrCore_item_update_button module="jrProfile" view="settings/profile_id=`$_profile_id`" profile_id=$_profile_id item_id=$_profile_id title="Update Profile"}
                    </div>
                {else}
                    {jrCore_module_function function="jrImage_display" module="jrProfile" type="profile_image" item_id=$_profile_id size="xxlarge" class="img_scale img_shadow" alt=$profile_name width=false height=false}
                {/if}
            </div>
        </div>

Inviting 2000+ Ning members to log in - anything I should know before jumping in?

Ning To Jamroom

Happy Day! I remember the feeling well about 15 months ago. The glorious feeling of a new successful site and platform that's FAR BETTER than ning 2.0 or 3.0 ...and the joy and relief of getting OFF the sinking Ning ship.
Congratulations Deb!! :D

In your Users module (jrUser), under Global/Accountsettings tab... do you have these settings as you want them? see screenshot.
As Douglas says- your member should check her browser settings- sometimes people have their browsers set to delete cookies every time they leave a page or site. Or she may have to enter your site URL in her browser to allow cookies for your site.

paul:
Also note that the NingImport send email tool only sends to users that have not yet logged in, so in a couple of weeks time (or whenever) you can change the template wording and resend so as to give those members a nudge.

Yes, I love that feature of the Import email tool! I actually did this four times with my 3,000 members importing from Ning, spread over a period of 6 months. Each time a couple hundred more members finally logged in, and those having trouble contacted me and I helped them log in. The last email I sent out was a warning that their accounts would be removed if they didn't log in at least once.

I wound up removing those folks, since they never responded over 6 months even though their email addresses passed the Kickbox test. It was a good way to get rid of deadwood... I no longer had to store photos of deceased members' dogs on my server. lol
