Private group (puzzle: member cannot edit posts)

Be sure to ask her what kind of device she is using when trying to edit her posts- ipad? phone? desktop? laptop? and what browser.

Groups not showing from profile pages (only from dropdown)

Using Jamroom

Holly, I hear you, but:
the way it's set up, a regular member will see a TAB (say for Photos/Images) on their own profile page even if they have not added any photos yet- but they'll see a big PLUS(+) button there when they click on the Tab. If you have DISABLED that quota from being able to create groups on their own (as I have in my site as well), then the only difference is the Plus button will not show to them. The idea of having the tab there even if they don't have any photos is to encourage members to add some when they see the Plus button in the blank tab area.

But YES, I see your point in not wanting the profile page TAB for Groups (or Images, Audio, etc) to SHOW for a member at all IF you have disabled their quota from even being able to create/add that type of item. That it frustrates and confuses the member. So to clarify... THAT is what you are asking to be able to somehow achieve- to HIDE the TAB if that quota is not allowed to add or create that type of item anyway.

One possible complication I immediately think of concerning this though- the ning members you import over...some of them will perhaps already have items they added while on your Ning site...that your new site now prohibits them from creating or adding for the future. If you HIDE the Tab from them, they then will not be able to see/access their own items anymore then... this could cause issues if your proposal was implemented globally. So this might be a custom code thing just for your site, to avoid such issues from effecting others' sites.

Groups not showing from profile pages (only from dropdown)

Using Jamroom

Holly, note that when you click in the "Groups you follow" drop down link, your'e taken to an URL that ends with .....com/group/my_groups. That's for groups you are a member of, not groups you created.

Groups not showing from profile pages (only from dropdown)

Using Jamroom

Hmm... Holly, do you understand that in the drop down list under the member's name where it says "Groups you follow", it lists exactly that: groups you are a member of.
But if you are on a Profile page and click that member's "Groups" tab, it will show you the Groups that member has CREATED (or "owns").

There's a little background about how we got this far in this thread from a year and a half ago:
https://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/forum/new_posts/26650/changing-what-shows-in-the-groups-tab-on-profile-pages/search_string=groups+you+follow ...kind of an interesting thread to read that addresses a few related issues on this.

I also seem to recall that possibly Curtis https://www.jamroom.net/derrickhand300 did wind up coding it so that a set of group avatars showed in a little grid on a member's profile page sidebar- the Groups the member belonged to. But now I can't find that thread here.

Go to ACP->Developer->Tools->clone skin. be sure to leave at least one prior skin version intact just in case you want to revert back if you mess up too much. Only one skin can be the 'active' skin- use the little checkbox to choose which one. Do NOT ever delete your currently 'active' skin!

How Easy Is It to Move A Ning 2.0 Site to JamRoom?

Ning To Jamroom

Well I guess Ning actually WAS for sale then- just not in the manner that we were thinking. How ironic!
Glam Mode is now vaporized and I guess they will neatly avoid any lawsuits this way too, if ning creators lose their sites at some point.

Ning To Jamroom

I'm pretty sure you can customize the Ningja skin into almost anything you want. Just my opinion but it's got the right setup to handle/receive all your ning pre-existent content. Maybe just see how far you can tweak it without coming upon limitations in what you envision?

Ning To Jamroom

Tatiana, I worked on my site alone for several months, but I'm not a coder. I got a bit of help with some final tuning from a couple of the JR Team in prep for when I went live. (this was all while the Site Builder was still in Beta). Paul helped me with the import process. What heroes they are!
Since going live over a year ago, I've learned a little more here and there and mostly make site tweaks myself now, though there's not much i need to change on my site since then- my members love it. They realllly wanted me to make the new site feel familiar to the old Ning site, so I had to take that into account while laying things out- it's not a 'slick' site by any means. But it does everything we want it to and WAY more. I did recently add those two ad sliders on my Main page.
You know Soaring Eagle (formerly Mr.I-Love-Ning himself) is on Jamroom now as well...everyone's favorite character with his gigantic dreadlock site. lol (Soaring you know i love you) ;D
