Did you run a full integrity check after installing the module? Include checking the boxes for:

validate modules

validate skins

repair tables

optimize tables

clear caches

Locking Group discussions?

Using Jamroom

As admin, I have the ability to 'lock' a forum discussion/thread so that members cannot add further responses.
There have already been multiple times when I've had the need to lock, but not delete, a Group discussion/thread...but am not able to.
I realize that Group Discussions are not constructed the same way as true forum discussions, but could we possibly get the ability to lock them as we can forum discussions?

While we're at it...it'd be great to also have the 'quote' feature available when responding to previous posts in a Group discussion, just as we have when responding in a Forum discussion. Should I create a new thread here for that though?

Thanks so much for any input!

YouTube Videos - multiple opportunities to rage quit

Ning To Jamroom

When you go to add a YT video to the site, do you not get TWO choices? The YT video ID # itself, OR the entire URL of the YT video, copied from your browser?
I get this choice:
"Enter the ID or URL for the youtube video - the YouTube ID is the 11 character ID found in the youtube URL. Alternatively you can just enter the full URL and the ID will be extracted from it."

My members are mostly over 55 yrs old, and although they were at first a bit puzzled about not using the YT embed codes like they used when we were on Ning, I notice they've adapted over the past two months and now seem to know what to do, since they click on the "?" button where they get the prompt above.
I keep a very descriptive forum category for New Site Questions, and on thread is titled Adding Videos where I answer a couple of these questions from members when they come up. I think most of my members are actually reading these help threads, as I have a big pointer on the main page to Site Questions/Answers forum, and also I keep it 'pinned' on top.
But- do you not get those TWO options?

Embedding into a forum post- if you insert a simple LINK to the entire YT video, copied from your browser window, you can give the link any 'text to show' label you want, and if someone clicks on it, it opens the YT video right there in the post and plays it.

Not trying to answer or negate your issues, but just saying what happens in my site, just IN CASE you didn't realize something or didn't have some item or setting enabled- you could then get to the bottom of it or help orientate your members. If my post doesn't help, then please ignore it, with my apologies.

how can we view influences on a profile????

"Its probably best just to add a profile_influences field to the profile update form using the Form Designer"...

Paul, you may recall that the 'Form Design' function is my worst nemesis. It's like some vaporous ghost I can never locate. Would you kindly point me to exactly how/where the heck I can FIND this "profile update Form" in order to add the field? I can never find my way to the form design areas!!
I swear I'll write it down carefully this time! ;)

Paul, wouldn't changing 'forum' to influences' in his skin language file then put the word 'influences' in other places where he might be wanting 'forum' to show? And I don't think we have the ability to actually ADD new entries to our Language files.
Perhaps instead just eliminate the reference to the language file altogether, would this work?:

Influences

I got my whole website erased.

Off Topic

Sorry to hear that. My own experience: I had nothing but problems while I hosted my site on Arvixe. Arvixe was cheap, but just impossible.
Since moving my site to Jamroom hosted server, no problems at all anymore.

Auto-follow set after posting in a discussion. Other options?

Using Jamroom

I have a question while I'm trying to figure out what's going on with this notification stuff-

What happens if a member has set all their Notification settings to "Do not notify", and they click the Follow button for a forum discussion? Will they not get notifications for that discussion, despite having marked it to 'follow'?

Subscribe to a Forum?

Yes, you know i agree with what you are saying here- after thinking more about it- it could easily get annoying for people to get an email for every new Comment Wall comment in a group they were following. And they'd wind up unfollowing the whole group because of too many emails for every comment on the group's comment wall. You're right.

Tell you what- I now think the Comment wall comments part should be eliminated. And just have the part that: When a member 'Follows' the entire group, it sends ONE notif email when a New Discussion is created in a Group. And again- then the members would have to decide on their own whether/which group discussions they want to Follow. Following individual group discussions would be an additional separate thing from following the overall Group.
Same basic thing for overall Forum Categories and forum threads within the categories, like Clay is asking for.
