That would be great!

So easy to delete forum discussions along with all their replies, in one click of the trash can.
But Comment Walls can become EPIC over the years with hundreds of comments in each group...and all the old comments become irrelevant, unwieldy junk. Most of my Groups are 6 years old now, and are favorites with my members. Need to save everything else, but Comments are good to just clear out once every couple years.

OK this is somewhat embarrassing, but...
I have somehow forgotten WHERE exactly I go to change my site settings so that the whole site...vs. just the main page...is visible and browsable by non-logged in people online? Ugh! Looked everywhere and can't remember where that setting was! grrrr...

Cometchat, does anyone have it installed and working properly ?

Zach- just got word that CC has contacted JR team for help in figuring out how to sort this out, concerning these 'update' notices and it appearing improperly in our update areas. Hopefully they'll get it sorted out in a few days.

UPDATE: looks like the CC Basic 'downdate' has now disappeared from our Update marketplace area. :)_

Yes Paul, I have groups that have comment walls that accumulate hundreds of Comments- the comment walls become too massive to navigate at that point, useless old comments and chitchat...
I want to be able to clear out all comments in a group's comment wall without effecting or deleting anything else in that group. Instead, I managed to delete the entire Baritone group and everything in it. I created a 'new' baritone group from scratch..nothing was left of the old one.

At first I tried deleting one comment at a time from a group's comment wall, but it was impossibly clumsy and un-navigable to do that...would take me back to the first page of comments every time I deleted ONE comment. Would have taken me two hours to clear one wall. Gotta be an easier way.
Thanks....

groups, no join or follow, but nonmembers can comment?

Ning To Jamroom

Ok, looking good!
This thread has been a bit complex, addressing a few aspects of closely related issues.

Recap:
1) the privacy problem with people being able to see everything and post in PRIVATE group just by applying to join them- and while their membership is still PENDING. This has been FIXED (yay!!!)
1) the problem with regular members being able to post discussions and comments in Groups (participate in every way) without having to join the group first...this too has been FIXED. Thanks!

(NOTE: STOP reading now if this subject is starting to bore you.) ;)

Part of the original questions raised by Soaring Eagle was that as Admins we were able to see and post in every group automatically (in other words automatically 'joined' the group already), but are not 'seen' by everyone else in the member list of that group.
I see the pros and cons of that arrangement. Soaring would like us Admins to be able to SEE everything in all groups, but not be able to post in them without 'joining' them. I can imagine that would take some in depth coding and not sure it's worth the huge effort.
My moderators have expressed that on Ning they were TIRED of having to join a group just to edit somebody's post quickly, and then un-join that group again...so I think I have come around to that viewpoint as well based on their complaints. Plus, it might look kinda weird for me and my 6 other moderators to all be listed as a new group's members right off the bat...like, huh?
I do notice that when I CREATE a new group, I am shown in the member list of the new group, even though I'm an Admin...so that good! Personally, I think I'm now ok with this current arrangement.

Brian said: "I think the important thing here to understand is that you should have TWO accounts - one is your "admin account" (or master) that you do SITE WORK on - the other is your "user" account that you use like a regular "user" account on your site."

Unfortunately this never even occurred to me when coming from Ning to Jamroom. And it's a bit late in the day now for me to attempt to 'split myself'...might cause some site issues in content I 'own', plus the hassle of logging in and out all the time as the Site owner everyone on my site 'knows' but without admin privileges...and a new shadowy Admin entity. Could be problematic at this point, so I probably will stick with just keeping a couple of test members and a 'test admin' and 'test moderator' profile as well.

This is Soaring's thread, so he can add whatever he wants and marked it unsolved/solved/whatever. But speaking only for me, the important issues it raised are ok now.

Attn Paul- see previous post- the second thing is still not functioning for me the way you are experiencing... a non member of a group is still able to post comments on the group's comment wall. Thanks

I would like to know what I did wrong- was I even in the right place for deleting multiple comments off of a group's Comment Wall? I thought I was, but then I vaporized the whole group into thin air! :(

The 'downgrade Basic version still needs to DISAPPEAR from our Marketplace Update area. Plus, I'm still getting an email reminder every day to 'update' CC.

Ok I wanted to clear out like 147 Comments of the Comment Wall of a particular Group. I went into Batch Edit, under group comment count, and I changed the number from 147 to 0 for that group only, and hit 'update'.
The result was that the entire Group --and all its 6 years of discussions, comments, the group name and url, all its members, group image....EVERYTHING, was gone.

See screenshot for where i did this. The group was called Baritone dulcimer Players and it's now at top since I recreated it.

What the heck did I do wrong?? Was I in the wrong place?? The wall comment count for that group was correct in the left side data box.
