groups, no join or follow, but nonmembers can comment?

Ning To Jamroom

OK, so just now i got a notification that a member had applied to join one of my PRIVATE Groups. AT THE SAME TIME, I got a notification that this same member had now ALREADY MADE A POST in one of the discussions in that PRIVATE Group. Before she was even approved to join the group.

This is nuts! She shouldn't have even been able to SEE anything in that group at all until I approved her, much less see everything and post in the group just because she had applied to join it. How is that 'private'?

This just REEEEEALLLYY needs to be changed. =8-0

Cometchat, does anyone have it installed and working properly ?

Giving that I have spent a years wage over the years trying to launch one of my projects, $250 is nothing really in the scheme of things. You should maybe have started with the $49 version and once the Jamroom module is fool proof then upgrade the features.

Then i'd have a chat with not many features that has some things not working, as opposed to a chat with lots of features with some things not working.
I plan on sticking with Cometchat- I think it's the best option for my Jamroom network right now. I don't regret spending $250. But I do expect it to work fairly reliably. I certainly don't expect updates to break it. Maybe I'm just a dreamer. :)

Communication options for members and for administrator

A good idea i think would be to have a "send me a message" button on every profile...

I believe Curtis ("DerrickHand") was working on doing this, but now I can't find the thread. He may be willing to share how, if he did it.

No way am I clicking on that 5.6.2 update yet. And... what does it mean that it has a RED DOT next to it that says "fail" when I hover my cursor over it? Not exactly confidence-inspiring...lol! "fail"?? lolol

I have filed a tech help ticket with Cometchat on this issue, to ask them what to do. I pointed to this discussion as well.
I'll report back here if I get further info.

I agree that $250 is a lot of money and although their tech support seems diligent and does fix problems, it'd be nice if we didn't have so many glitches to begin with. I figure there'll naturally be a few due issues due to the newish cometchat/jamroom module setup, but I'd think they'd thoroughly test a new update before releasing it to us.

@cometchat - I 'followed' you here on the forums, if you care to follow back then we can exchange messages.

Members not getting notifications -more often lately?

Using Jamroom

Brian, yes I've checked all the settings of the members having this issue.
The 'majority' of the notification emails are going out fine to members, but seems to be certain people having trouble now that didn't have trouble when I first went live.
however....

I just thought of something to ask you-

When i went live on June 15th, I was working with Paul of course and we sent some test invites out just to a certain quota as a test before sending them out to all 4800 members. (later we returned the volunteer test members to the regular member quota and deleted that tester quota)
Anyway, when we were doing all this, we had some sort of little glitch and Paul had me de-activate my jrMailGun (MailGun SMTP) Module, saying I didn't need it since my mailgun stuff was all set up and working when I test an email address.
Is this ok, to leave that MailGun SMTP module not activated? I have no clue, but thought I'd ask you just in case.

Also, my maximum send rate per minute was still set at 5 per minute from when I sent out several thousand Mailgun invites...I just changed it to 25 per minute- is that a good or bad idea? (I will always set it back to 5 per min temporarily if I mail anything out to all members at once, like a newsletter or invite.)

I just now sent out two test emails to two diff email addresses of mine, and also sent on to 3 members who are having the difficulty. I got my two right away, but I'll have to wait to hear back from them.

Meanwhile...Here is a screenshot of my current EmailSupport JR module config settings now- does it look right to you? Thank you for helping...

Unfortunately, I'm not good though. Members' settings seem fine, but more and more are complaining about not getting notifications...and many of them 'used to' get the notifications fine at first...see above: "Here's the thing- Mailgun seems to be successfully delivering just about all the ones it gets in its queue, but the implication here 'seems' to be that there my be a whole lot more that Mailgun is not receiving triggers for to begin with..."
Sounds from his ablove comment that like Michael is investigating, maybe?

'De-activate Member' has glitch.

Using Jamroom

Thank you Brian for all your help today! I have learned quite a bit.

I'm going to set it to 225 (3.75 minutes) and see how that goes. My members are mostly older, so they get vertigo if things go too fast anyway. lololol... :)
