test site migrating 3.0 ning site

Ning To Jamroom

Yes but I believe it was recently added to Ning 3.0 the ability for the site owner to save a file (.csv maybe) of their own member names and emails. Not an archive of content mind you, but a member name/email listing. So maybe the site owner could provide that from a Ning 3.0 network now. This was added recently...
Do you want me to ask about it in the ning forum? I swear they added it to 3.0 a few months ago.

test site migrating 3.0 ning site

Ning To Jamroom

All that you say i swhat i believe to be true as well.
Didn't know you were banned...i guess because you no longer have a ning site, right?

I'll still be paying for my 2.0 for one more month anyway, and I have a free sandbox 3.0 which i do nothing with. Not sure what will happened when I announce my live JR site there on Creators...those who hate me will say "Ok, so BYE!!!"..they'll be soooo anxious to see me go since they hate being reminded so often about how doomed they are...lol. but i'll still be a paying ning customer with a network for another month yet. So if I don't say anything horrible, i;ll be able to still post there for a few more weeks.

It's hard to believe how there are still some 2.0 owners who come stumbling in over there and still have no clue about 3.0 or about the ning problems. Oy! They never look up from their networks long enough to check in the 'support' forum...for years. !

turning "follower" module on and off...question

Using Jamroom

If I temporarily uncheck the box to make this module inactive, and then turn it back on later, does it erase members' followed/following lists, or does that remain intact even while I have the module set to be inactive? (gotta be suer about this or it'd upset a whole bunch of folks).

Also, if it's inactive, does that then prevent members from sending private messages via the Private Notes module if I have it set to only allow pMs between "Followers" ?

Turn off notifications for everyone

Ning To Jamroom

I should have mentioned that I know how to get on my server using Filezilla- sorry.

"the config is in:
/data/config/config.php
That's the file your after."

yeah that was it, thank you.
I'm working with Paul now on this.
My new JR home should be going live within the next day or so! So exciting! =8-D

I'm bookmarking this useful thread in case I need to temporarily turn off all member notifications for some reason in the future, on my own.

Turn off notifications for everyone

" But probably a safer way is to not alter that and instead go into:
/data/config/config.php and add this line to the end of the file: "

Michael, can I get to that php file through my ACP, or...where exactly pleasedo I find it to change and then change back that code?
I'm after the exact same thing as WhiteAgency...just about to send testing invites to a handful of testers to log in and check things before sending out my thousands of invites. Can't have hundreds of members getting notifications and banging on the door and emailing me all confused while the testers are posting things for a day before going live... =8-\

Turn off notifications for everyone

Ning To Jamroom

I had this same issue of members get notifications (unbeknownst to me) before the site was ready, and following the links in the email, to my site. I had to set my JR site into maintentence mode to keep them out, but it's tricky posting content while testing, and knowing the members may receive real life notifications if you post something in the wrong place while testing the site.

Is there any way of changing how to add images into forum replies ?

Using Jamroom

John Bizley:
Strumelia it's about adding images into a reply in a forum like here. So if I wanted to add an image for something into this post I would first have to post the response then go back and update it to add the image rather than doing it all at the same time.

I thought the JR team only set it that way purposely here to prevent everyone from posting bunches of goofy joke images here in the support forums. ? Ah well, I don't get it. thanks!

Modern Responsive design examples

Ning To Jamroom

On a site that is NOT dependent on member participation and interaction, and member-added content, (like a store site or musician band site) the sky is the limit in terms of design. But once you have thousands of members all looking for familiar paths to navigate and add their OWN content, the design has to accommodate that in 'some' way so they don't wind up frustrated and leaving.

That's kind of why there are some ning 3.0 users who are perfectly happy with that platform. Some of them have sites where the site owner is pretty much the only person adding content (other than comments like "hey, cool!" from their site members). They themselves often say they have no need for videos, chat, events, music. In those cases they too would have the freedom to create a site design that isnt dependent on members interacting socially, tweaking their own profile pages, finding their way around the many features and adding content.
