Changing what shows in the Groups Tab on profile pages

Ning To Jamroom

Yes I keep forgetting that, and it does help a little. It's a concept I keep having rewrap my head around...that when i visit a member's profile page as site owner, I kind of temporarily 'own' the profile and thus am able to make changes from within their account...is that correct?
The new update is definitely an improvement and I'm grateful for it. :)

Profile info tabs and name still showing up when clicking "ALL" Group discussions

Using Jamroom

Just to get this clear- so after updating everytrhing (modules AND ningja skin)...I should do the 'compare' on those templates in my SKINS, right?- NOT doing the template compares within the modules themselves? So I'll be comparing my current active Custom SKIN profile_index_discussion.tpl with the new updated Ningja SKIN profile_index_discussion.tpl.... right?

(Just trying to get better at doing this on my own)

This is exciting!! You JR fellers sure work fast! :)

I see most of the changed templates named there in the changelog (thank you!!!)
but not sure which skin templates to 'compare' for these items?:

- New: "Show Profile Header" skin config option to show Profile header when viewing groups
- New: Added support for new Combined Audio and Combined Video modules

Changing what shows in the Groups Tab on profile pages

Ning To Jamroom

Brian, this is very handy, thank you! It's great and useful to see a list of the groups we ourselves belong to!

Now it'll seem like I'm ungrateful, but I have to clarify this a bit....

What I was reeeally meaning and hoping for was the ability for members to go to OTHER member profile pages and see what groups that person belongs to. That's a wonderful way that we learn more about EACH OTHER and our interests, and make friends on the network.

I'm trying to get away from seeing that 'deadly' BLANK box when clicking on a member profile's "Groups" TAB...because very few of my members have actually CREATED groups...and in fact I do not give them the ability to do so. (if I did there'd be groups about somebody's goldfish's birthday, etc...)
Is there a way perhaps to have an OPTION/toggle for that Groups Tab to show EITHER groups the member created, OR groups the member has joined?

I really apologize for asking for something beyond what you've done already, but I'm not sure you understood the goal we were shooting for. All this Ning/JR talk is kinda like translating two languages back and forth.

contact us page

Using Jamroom

I'm using Ningja and I noticed there was nothing to contact me in the footer.
So in the skin footer.tpl , I added this under the shown "&copy" line of code that's already there for the site name/year/copyright:
...{$smarty.now|date_format:"%Y"} <a href="{$jamroom_url}">{$_conf.jrCore_system_name}</a><br>
<a href="mailto:strumelia.mysite@gmail.com?subject=SiteQuestion">CONTACT site owner</a><br>

That was a simple emailing link that works without having a whole contact 'page'.

Configuring a group for my forum

Installation and Configuration

michael:
If your talking about your Jamroom site, they can do that because they are in a Quota that allows their profile to have groups.
If your talking about on your ning site and you want to have that for your members, then select their quota from the dropdown menu in that same location:
ACP -> PROFILE GROUPS -> GROUP SUPPORT -> QUOTA CONFIG
and check the "allowed on profile" checkbox and save.

---
short overview of how jamroom works:
* adding a module to the system means that functionality exists in the system but not necessarily anyone can use it.
* each module has a QUOTA CONFIG tab and that determines who can use the module.
* If you are allowed by your quota to use a module, then it will appear as a button on your profile.

The above is important stuff that ex-ningers need to know.
For example, I have the Polls module, but I have it set so that only me and admins can create polls, not regular members. I 'could' create a new quota (role) if I wanted, a duplicate of the members quota except with polls allowed, and then members could request to be moved to that quota where they could create polls. Maybe I would charge a fee for being in that quota and having polling ability... see how it works Perrie? Multiply this by the dozens of features and abilities...the possibilities are endless. :)

Ok, I will save this thread and this code and I'll post later if I can't get it to work someplace.
Thank you all. :)

Ok Paul that sounds good. It would make profile pages way nicer and more interesting and informative, for my network anyway.
Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

So for:
mysite.com/forums/forum/chord-melody-modern-style-playing-discussions/4410/song-accompaniment

I would just put in the code:
<h1>Featured Discussions</h1><br>
        {jrCore_list module="jrForum" discussion_id="4410,etc" limit=4orwhatever}
-would I use "discussion_id" as the prefix for the id number?
....or maybe item instead?: item_id="4410,..."
