Need to tweak a customization of Index/main page Timeline "comments".

Using Jamroom

In conclusion, my tweak to the site's main page activity feed is working, but somehow lately is no longer working for logged OUT members or non-members. A while back, it used to work whether logged in or not logged in.
I need to find where/how to fix it so it prevents those profile comments from showing up also for logged OUT.

Need to tweak a customization of Index/main page Timeline "comments".

Using Jamroom

The recent problem ever since the latest module updates is:
When members are LOGGED OUT, or for non-members who come to check out my site before joining, they see all the many many 'welcome comments' and it looks like THIS, which is awful:

Need to tweak a customization of Index/main page Timeline "comments".

Using Jamroom

Hi,
This is in reference to the skin customization I've had for a long time now, as detailed here when i lost it once before:
https://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/forum/my_posts/48816/recovering-a-small-skin-customization-i-lost-when-i-moved-to-jr6#last

The customization in question is for the main page timeline/activity feed... I prevent profile page 'comments' from showing up on the main page activity feed, because it's too awful to see like 8 posts in a row of "Hi there!"/"welcome to the site!"/"You'll have fun here!"/"Welcome!" ... every day and so on. (I have a team of 'welcomers' who greet every new member).
So look- the customization IS STILL WORKING fine on my site's main page ... when a member is LOGGED IN.
Here's what it looks like when someone is LOGGED IN, and this is how i LIKE it:

After switching nameservers over to Jamroom for hosting

Jamroom Hosting

I have a question about this template procedure you described, Michael. Perhaps you can clarify for me...

Say for example I have a site online that is not connected to my jr-hosted site. It's just a plain html site with various html pages.
Say I have a page there that I want to have on my JR hosted site: a simple .html page with a few images, some text, and an existing hotlinked Paypal button...
Are you saying that I could go to my custom JR skin, create a new template say call it buyitem.tpl ...with nothing in that template, and then simply paste the html code in its entirety, as is, from the other site's .html page/file into my jr template (with no other special code added to 'convert' it or make it jr compatible)... and that page would show up on my jr site looking and functioning the same, at: (mysite).com/buyitem ?

email logs not showing up

Using Jamroom

Not seeing any email log entries on either of my domains on jr server, as of last night. My Mailgun log shows that emails are coming and going normally, however.

help- what is the Timeline "Quick share" feature?

Using Jamroom

Thanks, it's a bit clearer for me now.
Sounds like a great feature! But...my sites are a bit oldschool, and some of my members have been confused why/how this is happening (including me, lol), so I turned OFF quickshare on my sites, at least for now. ;)

help- what is the Timeline "Quick share" feature?

Using Jamroom

Lately I've had members randomly continuing a forum discussion by then posting on the other person's Timeline Activity stream... which I don't want to allow. They don't even seem to understand how it occurred. I don't know how it happens either... but I want to turn that particular ability OFF.

How to be notified about new members?

Ning To Jamroom

Does your welcome person receive OTHER notifications that they have set 'yes' to?... is it ONLY the new member notification that she has not gotten? That would help determine if their site notifications were winding up in her spam filter. The 'new member notification' setting is working properly for my 'welcome wagon' members and moderators.

Also- are you familiar with the 'profile admin' quota?- it's for assigning members to become moderators but NOT Master Admins.... which means they can edit/delete other members' content and profiles (hence the name Profile Admin), they have access to your dashboard, but they CANNOT access the backend codes, skins, modules, templates etc. That way they can moderate troublesome members or disable spammers, but they cannot mess up the critical structure of your site.

help- what is the Timeline "Quick share" feature?

Using Jamroom

I see the help explanation, but I still don't understand exactly what it is:

Enable Quick Share ?
Check this option to enable the Quick Share options in a Profile timeline.
Default: on

Lately I've had members randomly continuing a forum discussion by then posting on the other person's Timeline Activity stream... which I don't want to allow. They don't even seem to understand how it occurred. I like member's actions to show in timelines, but I don't want people posting like a coversation in each other's activity streams. HOW can I prevent members from holding discussions in each other's profile timelines?
- I tried UNchecking the 'enable quick share' inthe Timeline module, (which had been checked for over a year)... but after clearing cache the offending posts had not disappeared, so I am thinking that unchecking it is not the way to do what I want.
I'm confused. Any clarifications on this?
