How to change the dates of the Discussion Forum feed on our main page?

Ning To Jamroom

Actually, I'd like to change this to the same as Deb is wanting as well- I feel the same way about how it makes the discussion seem 'stale' even when it's ongoing and active with recent posts... so I'd appreciate it if the solution was posted here so I can apply it to my sites too. :)

Ok, I'm happy to wait for the fix then, while it's tested. Much appreciated!! :D

Thank you so much Brian! :)

Will there be anything else (not related to this issue) that you predict I'll need to check/adjust on my site when the time comes that I update from jrCore 6.0.7 to 6.1.0 ?

So Steve, what kind of computer/device is this all happening on for you?

Are you folks all trying this on MY site, or on your own sites as well?

Obviously I have an issue that was not happening earlier. Any one else checking their uploaded vids on their own sites, so we know whether it's just me?

I seem to recall this happening to me once before, and a simple solution... but I cannot search-find or remember how it was fixed! (d'OH)

All my Vimeo & YT vids working fine in Firefox, Chrome, and Safari. But my uploaded vids are not playing now, ONLY in Firefox.

Not sure exactly when this started malfunctioning (since only my older site vids were actually uploaded), but someone just brought it to my attention.

Ideas?

Group Email - no automatic mention of group?

Using Jamroom

lornawebber:
@brian Either of those options would suit me. I can't think of a situation where the group leader wouldn't want to include a link to the group, so an automatic inclusion in the footer would work - which ever would be easier.

@strumelia you are correct in what you say - notification emails for updates of group discussions do include a link to the new comment in the discussion. I am referring specifically to Group Emails, sent by a group leader to all members of the group using the Group Emailer feature.

Ah, sorry- I didn't understand! Yes I see... 'group emails', sent out by the group leader to all group members. :)

Group Email - no automatic mention of group?

Using Jamroom

My memory on this is a bit vague, but I seem to recall that when JR Groups were first created (as a feature for former Ning site owners), the email notifications coming from Group discussions simply sent people to the Group's main page. That was too vague and caused confusion for notified members about where the new post was located. I seem to recall that we asked JR team to change this so the emailed link would take on directly to that new post in the particular group discussion... which they kindly did for us.

what is difference Pages with Blog

Using Jamroom

Pages are stand-alone web pages with their own location. You can make a site page that has content or info in it, and either locate it independent somewhere on your site or (if you have the Groups module) as a page within a Group. Either way you'd need to provide a link to the page on your site if you want people to go look at it.
Blogs are usually thought of as a series of postings that get added to over time, more like a diary or ongoing log of content that is somehow connected by theme or author. The word "blog" was created as a short form of "web log".

How to leave? (How to delete, or how to remove, own account?)

Using Jamroom

PJ, yes I think that Paul's suggestion of adding a "Delete Me" link in the profile dropdown menu will be better for my site as well- better than my current setup of simply not allowing self-deletion at all, with members futilely searching for a way to 'leave' and remove their account. It'll also be better than allowing members to go ahead and delete all their content first.
I'll see if I can wrestle with the CustomForm module to get that done on my sites. Thanks everyone!

How to leave? (How to delete, or how to remove, own account?)

Using Jamroom

SteveX:
But if you want to make your users wait until you approve their request to delete their account, hey, maybe that works for you.
Right now I have it set so members cannot delete their accounts at all. I did that when a longtime member who
'owned' several important groups (but had long since not managed them) was about to leave and just happened to mention it to me before deleting their account along with all their content. Because I had the heads up I was able to 'change owner' and save those Groups containing a huge amount of wonderful useful site content contributed by many members over 7 years.

With my current setting, when a member wants to leave, they look for a way out and can find none... so they either contact me and ask me how they can delete their account (and I delete them as per their request) OR they simply wander off and leave their account abandoned... which imho is not ideal either since it accumulates defunct members, though some site owners like showing as high a member count as possible. Sorry, I don't mean to hijack this thread. I'll stop now!
