system update

Using Jamroom

I just updated our platform ... had about 18 updates pending. I did them one at a time, by design. Didn't notice there was a way to do them all at once. [I usually will check the module after each update, so wouldn't use a feature like that anyway.]

New Site Builder Module: How to Activate If your JamRoom Site Already Had It

Using Jamroom

@Brian. I went ahead and deleted the old modules as I didn't like some of the artifacts I was getting (buttons in odd places). My site is a sand-box, so I'm happy to only play in the beta.

brian: ...the feeling I get is that a lot of you are running ALL the groups on your site - i.e. your users are NOT creating their own groups.

I ran dozens of NING sites over the years. My observation and experience was site creators ended up creating their groups because NING never gave them the ability to replace the original creator. So, you'd have the icon of a user who might have left years ago on the group and no way to change that. Very confusing for new users and a cause of resentment for the user the site creator might have elevated to be that group's admin. [They are doing all the work, but someone else is showing as the group's top dog.]

P.S. For small, well-run groups, giving its members the ability to email all the members of the group was very helpful. However, I don't recall it being a mission-critical feature.

New Site Builder Module: How to Activate If your JamRoom Site Already Had It

Using Jamroom

@ Brian. Thanks! I ran an integrity check and the system disabled them.

08 May 2015 09:26:00AM [admin]: integrity check completed
08 May 2015 09:25:39AM [admin]: jrSiteBuilder: (success) system import complete, disabling jrConstructionKit
08 May 2015 09:25:39AM [admin]: jrSiteBuilder: (success) system import complete, disabling jrWidget
08 May 2015 09:25:39AM [admin]: jrSiteBuilder: (success) system import complete, disabling jrPanel
08 May 2015 09:25:39AM [admin]: jrSiteBuilder: (success) system import complete, disabling jrMenu

If I'm understanding you correctly, the action we need to take is to disable and delete the following modules:

~ Site Builder - Construction Kit
~ Site Builder - Menus
~ Site Builder - Panels
~ Site Builder - Widgets

Once that's done, the only module that should be listed under the Site Builder module is the "Site Builder Core".

Do I have it right?

New Site Builder Module: How to Activate If your JamRoom Site Already Had It

Using Jamroom

@Brian. I took a risk and installed the beta module on the existing platform; in other words, I did not deinstall the current module set. I now see the new GUI.

Installing on top of the existing modules required that I reactive them. However, I'm not seeing a change in the version numbers assigned to the different site-builder modules, only the addition of a new module in that section named "Site Builder Core".

New Site Builder Module: How to Activate If your JamRoom Site Already Had It

Using Jamroom

@Brian.

Thanks! When I apply that change and then check for updates, all the system offers is the Conversion Client and YouTube Support.

Do I need to deinstall the current modules in order to apply the new ones?

New Site Builder Module: How to Activate If your JamRoom Site Already Had It

Using Jamroom

From this forum, it reads like the update to the Site Builder module went live. However, when I look at my site, I don't see a new GUI for the modules, though when I read the recent comments, it appears the redesign included the GUI.

When I search the Marketplace, I don't see it listed anywhere.

Do I need to deinstall the code I'm currently using in order to see the upgrade?

We've made all updates that were pending to the platform and are running the NingJa skin.

Here's what we're running on our site now:

Description: Site Builder support for lists and other content pieces
Version: 1.0.7
requires: pass System Core 5.2.16
pass Site Builder - Widgets
pass Site Builder - Panels
pass Editor Embedded Media

michael:
Only the newsletter system:
your-site.com/letter/compose

But it divides on quota, not groups.

Being able to target by quota is helpful management. Particularly if you're using the Kickbox Email Validation module [https://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/forum/my_posts/25647/new-kickbox-email-validation-module] to identify users who no longer have valid email addresses. I plan to move members who fail the email test into their own quota, so I won't email them again by design.

Private Events Become Public Events Post-Migration

Ning To Jamroom

paul:In the Ning archive there is no indication of whether an event was set as private or public, so I guess that this is another piece of data that Ning neglects when building their archive!!

That is so like NING. *sighs* Thanks for explaining why this is happening and for the instruction as to how to create private events in JamRoom.

Site Builder widget editor problem

Using Jamroom

brian:
Just want to add that we are very close to a completely new Site Builder - I would recommend NOT using the existing one until the new one is out.

Sweet!
