YouTube Module Start Time

Jamroom Developers

I'll tell ya, along with the excellent coding and features, the guys running JR have to be some of the nicest most helpful Patriots fans around. Try dealing with the IPS IP board developers... it's berate city.

YouTube Module Start Time

I've entered several youtu.be domains and they've all been accepted.

Really should think about adding the time parameter. A lot of people use that feature on YT especially with longer videos which the poster just wants a section of the video.

Go into the Form Designer for the create/update YouTube forms and create a new field called "youtube_time" of type "text". Then you can add:

&t={$item.youtube_time}

to the URL in the item_detail.tpl file.

Hope this helps!

Excellent. Thanks for the info!

YouTube Module Start Time

Jamroom Developers

Doing some testing with the YouTube module, it doesn't appear that the module accepts a start time. Entering the straight video link works fine, but entering the video with a start time returns an error. An example:

http://youtu.be/mVzCih9RnWg?t=2m4s won't work.

Even in this infographic:

http://fundersandfounders.com/startup-mistakes/

"Bad Location – you can change everything about a house but its location. Likewise, if your startup is in a bad location, you can’t change the nature of that location. It’s easier to move the startup. Where to? Silicon Valley."

Mistake: location. Idea can be great but if it's in a bad location... no funding.

Pick any of those 3 over PHP though, and even though it will be for the wrong reasons, you'll at least be "cool" and can hang with the SF Hipsters :)

LMAO! Dead on with that statement.

I do a lot of research of VC funding, not by choice, but because I run a large forum and tend to follow a lot of VCs on twitter.

It's really amazing how a lot of tech VCs (a lot are based in SV) really discriminate based on location. I read company after company getting VC capital and most of them are in SV, there are a few in NYC. Any other location, unless the idea is an Uber idea, gets overlooked.

Profile Domains Scale

Sweet. I was planning on using it as a major selling point.

Profile Domains Scale

Jamroom Developers

I'm curious how the Profile Domains Module would scale if a JR install had thousands of domains mapped to profiles? Is the Apache config file going to be able to handle it?

From this doc https://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/documentation/modules/2239/profile-domains it appears that the Apache Conf is adding a new include for every domain added: apache_server_alias_*.conf

If my site has thousands of apache_server_alias_*.conf included in the Apache Conf won't that slow the server down?

I think this module is great, just wondering if there is any limit on how many domains can be mapped without effecting performance.

Nice chart. But as you know, you can't argue with those "PHP haters".

Regardless of the Silicon Valley circle jerk on PHP, it's a very robust language that is available everywhere, so there's no change we'll be rewriting it :)

I agree. I love PHP. But man have I read some quite lengthy, "reasons why PHP is a horrible language" write-ups. Yea, it seems that if someone wants SV VC capital, it's got to be using one of the "approved" "I'm too cool for school" languages.

As for a name change, I think ultimately "Jamroom" is just a name - if we put out an awesome product, it may take some time, but everything will take care of itself. I don't think starting over with a new name would really help much at this point.

I hear you on that and you do have an incredible product.

Did you ever think about posting on producthunt.com. Huge site for new products. The site just got a large amount of VC dollars. It's a very simple site but it's skyrocketing in rankings. Get listed on that site and expect some traffic. :)
