Jamroom 7.1.0 Beta is now available!

Hey Everyone!

I've just pushed the first beta of Jamroom Core 7.1.0 to the Beta Channel, along with a HUGE batch of new module updates that go with it. There's a lot of cool new updates and tweaks - here are some of the bigger items:

  • Awesome new "Pop Out" player in the Audio module - a persistent audio player that continues to play as your users browser your site.
  • Overhauled Video module with much faster and higher quality conversions and all new Video player with speed controls and pop out video player.
  • The bundled TinyMCE 5 editor has been removed (no more security fixes) and has been replaced with HugeRTE (open source fork of TinyMCE 6). Embedded videos and music from YouTube, Vimeo, SoundCloud, Bandcamp, Spotify and others now play right in the editor preview.
  • New BBCode options. There's [md] for Markdown, [spoiler] for hidden text and [code=language] to set the language of a code block.
  • Nginx web server support. There's a sample nginx config, and the System Check now catches private files that can be loaded in a browser on any web server.
  • Updated libraries for PHP 8.4+. Smarty, HTML Purifier, jQuery and more have been updated to prepare for PHP 9.
  • The media players are HTML5 only now, and the old Flash fallback has been removed (browsers no longer use it).
  • ACP updates. Module and skin Info tabs now show Settings and the Change Log right in the page, and many popup windows are now in-page modal windows.
  • 80+ more module updates with TONS of bug fixes, tweaks and updates.

Also - 2 new free modules:

Social Login

The new Social Login module lets your users sign up and log in with their Google or Apple account. It talks to Google and Apple directly, so there's no third party service in the middle and no extra monthly fee.  This is one I wanted for Jamroom.net and will be getting it setup here shortly.

Share Buttons

The new Share Buttons module adds share buttons for X, Facebook, Bluesky, Threads, Mastodon, LinkedIn, Reddit, WhatsApp, Telegram, Pinterest and email. It also has "copy link" and a button for your device's share menu. They're plain links, so there are no third party scripts and no tracking on your site. You can turn each button on or off, turn sharing off per quota, and place the buttons with the template function or a Site Builder widget.  I would recommend ditching the old "Share This" module for the new Share module.

This is a BETA release, so don't run it on your live site yet. If you have a dev or test site please try it out and let me know how it goes.

To get the beta, enable the Beta Channel in your Marketplace settings. If you have questions or run into problems, please post them in the forum:

As many of you long time users know we've been pretty slow at getting new releases out recently -  this has been 100% my fault - my "day job" keeps me working 50+ hours a week and I just have not had the energy on the weekends/nights to get a lot of JR stuff done.  Recently I started using Claude Code to help find bugs and security issues - I was super impressed with the results and so have incorporated that in to my work flow which has made a HUGE difference for me, and reignited a bit of a spark to get some cool things done on Jamroom.

Please let me know if you have any feedback on the new release - I'd love you hear from you!

Thanks!
