  • What it does

    Media URL Scanner (module jrUrlScan) turns links in posts, comments and other text into something richer:

    • media players, for links to media on your own site or on YouTube, Vimeo, SoundCloud or Flickr, when those modules are active
    • link cards, with the page's title, description and image, for other web pages

    It replaces the core's "clickable links" formatter, so links still work where no card or player can be made.

  • Setting it up

    Turn on the Media URL Scanner text formatter in the quotas that should show players and cards. See What is a Text Formatter?.

    Link cards are made by reading the linked page's Open Graph tags. If a site refuses, the optional OpenGraph.io service can make the card instead. With Enable Safe Browsing, links are checked against Google Safe Browsing. Unsafe links are removed from the text and logged in the Activity Log.

    Tools > URL Card Browser lists the cards made so far, and refreshes one.

  • Global Config

    Setting What it does
    Expanded Media Shows players open on the page (default: on). When off, visitors click the media title to open it.
    Remove Tracking Params Strips tracking parameters such as fbclid and utm_source from saved links (default: on)
    Play Button Size The size of the play button next to media links (default: disabled)
    Daily URL Checks How many saved links to re-check each day, spread over the hours (default 480, 0 = off)
    OpenGraph API Mode Use OpenGraph.io for every card, only when the site can't be read directly, or not at all (default)
    OpenGraph API Key Your OpenGraph.io key
    Enable Safe Browsing Checks links with Google Safe Browsing (default: off)
    Safe Browsing API Key Your Google API key with Safe Browsing enabled
