Hey Michael

Currently panels are associated with all skins would it be possible to try them to one skin, this would really aid skin designers using this going forward.

The panels are importable and exportable. I would suggest that the skin designers package a default layout with their skin.

could you help me understand what your thinking: "this would really aid skin designers using this going forward" please?

My thinking was this.

I have a short attention span and like to switch between multiple skins I am tinkering with and if using site builder you really need a separate install of jamroom and the associated modules if you want to design multiple skins at the same time.

With panels being site specific you would have to export, import another set when you switch skins and then again and again. If they were skin specific this wouldn't matter as each skin would have a unique set of panels attached and switching between them would auto load the appropriate panels.

Now I realise I might be only one of a very few people that work like this, so hope you can grasp what I am saying here.

I see what your saying just not sure its the right way to go. On the plus side it would bring the site builder system in-to-line with the way the traditional skins work, but it would also mean needing to re-configure your site if you changed skins.

Thinking about it like more traditional type systems like Wordpress, a skin is just a theme to the content and the content doesn't change much when you change the skin.

So I'm not sure. It is possible to do.

Pro's:
It makes it more similar to how skins work now

Con's:
exported layouts would be skin specific

I'll look into it.

With regards to WP, it all depends on the theme you use as if they come with custom post types, premium plugins etc they can seriously change how the site looks.
