The Ning Import module will create Jamroom items from a Ning backup file. The Ning Import module is the quickest way to migrate your Ning 2.0 site to Jamroom.

I'm looking at purchasing a NING based site. I'm not sure exactly what this module is going to import from the existing Ning website. Is there any more details?

It will import the entire Ning site into a Jamroom site (music, blogs, videos, etc.)

Hope this helps!

@jimmy

I have been managing a Ning 1.0-2.0 based site for several years, but am in the process of setting up a Ning-compatible JR site as an external (Ning-independent) backup or alternative. The Ning 2.0 site is running smoothly at present, which makes it a good time to be setting up an alternative.

Will it import Ning 3 Sites?

Hi @athenadivine - we can import a Ning 3 site, but at this time it only imports your user accounts - I don't believe Ning's export tool for Ning 3 has anything else beyond the member info, but we can import that to a Jamroom site no problem. @paul is our Ning expert, so hopefully he will see this and correct me if I am wrong.

Hope this helps!

Hi - Yes, what Brian said above is correct, unlike Ning2 which has a full archive that can be imported to Jamroom, Ning3 only archives member names, email address, their birthday and location, and their answers to the set signup questions. This archive file is downloadable from your Ning control panel and can then be easily imported into Jamroom.
Not an ideal situation, I know, but at least its possible to start your site again on Jamroom with your most valuable asset (your members), and several ex-Ningsters who had Ning3 sites have already done this.

Im totally lost. I signed up for an account för $49 unlimited and I bought the import 5gb and now?
Please help me, I haven't done this before and have 5 sites at ning and it has not been working since august and the support won't help me, I really hope that your services can help me. I have groups for courses at my sites and I need them up and running. I also downloaded the jrning Import and I dont know what to do next. I dont have any archive on ning at management content. Ning has changed my payment plan to yearly instead of monthly and wrote that they will close it and support will not help to correct or fix the problems.
My primary site is www.ylvatrollstierna.ning.com (swedish) / Ylva

Hi - You have bought our import service for a 5GByte Ning site, which is a good start, but we are going to need your Ning site URL and admin login to do this, and you are going to need somewhere to host your Jamroom site (checkout our hosting plans - https://www.jamroom.net/hosting ).
Let's take this to a support ticket so that we can get this information and discuss your options securely.
Email support[at]jamroom[dot]net and we'll take it from there.
Thanks
Paul
