Simple Chat Jamroom 6 - Audible Notification

Using Jamroom

There is no "enabling" needed - it is already supported. You just need to type:

:page brian

while you are in a chat room that brian has access to and it will "chime" me at my computer.

There is no support at this time for users entering a room to have it "chime". It's something we can look into, but it's a bit tricky since there's really no "entering" or "leaving" a chat room in Simple Chat.

SoundManager2 only uses a flash fallback for older devices, which we still need to support. It does not do video so we would not try to use it for that.

Managing power users

Using Jamroom

Yes - you can see the profiles a user is linked to in their "Account Settings" section - in the Admin section it will show you all the profiles they are linked to (with a checkbox to unlink them if you want). The default profile I believe is the first one, but will also be the profile that shows in the Data Browser (Dashboard -> Data Browser -> Profiles).

Let me know if that helps.

Simple Chat Jamroom 6 - Audible Notification

Using Jamroom

jffgldr:
Thanks Michael. Got any idea if there are plans (or a way) to implement an automatic chime. Not so much for this network, but we're getting ready to migrate 2 more nings that have heavy chat users during our live talk radio broadcasts. I'm using this migration to "practice" for the next (larger) network. Loving it so far.

Can you let me know what you mean by "automatic" chime? Do you mean when a user becomes active in a chat room?

Thanks!

Down the road the plan is to to SoundManager2 - I like that it is 100% programmatic. For now though, jPlayer works fairly well so there's no immediate plans to replace it - at least not soon. In Jamroom the player isn't involved in the encoding process, so a new player is not going to help there.

Let me know if that helps.

Jamroom 6 Upgrade Guide

Announcements

Now that Jamroom 6 has "shipped" I thought I would post a real quick "upgrade" guide for upgrading to Jamroom 6 from any version of Jamroom 5:

1) If you have a large site, put your site in Maintenance Mode.

2) Update to the new Jamroom 6 Core from the Marketplace

3) Update to the latest module updates in the Marketplace

4) RUN AN INTEGRITY CHECK with the "repair modules" option checked. This is pretty normal to do, but with JR6 it's important that this be done right away, as there are low level database schema updates that must be applied. Be patient - on a large system this could 15 to 20 minutes to run.

5) When the Integrity Check completes, reset caches

6) Rebuild the Search Index from the ACP -> Listing -> Search -> Tools section

7) IF you have customizes the jrAction "item_list.tpl" file, or any of the module item_action.tpl files, use the Template compare tool to compare your version versus the new version and bring in the changes as needed.

Let us know if you have any questions and we can help.

Thanks!

Beta 8 errors with custom module

Jamroom Developers

Cool - a "regular" integrity check would have fixed that up as well, but the "repair modules" option does a couple extra checks that are always good.

Glad to hear it's working.

Beta 8 errors with custom module

Jamroom Developers

Run an integrity check with "repair modules" checked - the DS for your custom module needs to be upgraded to the JR6 DS schema.

Let me know if that helps.
