Jamroom Facebook/Twitter Campaign

jimmyk:
Advertising is important. You don't really have an advertising module for Jamroom.
What is a Jamroom advertising module going to bring to the system that Google Adwords (or any of the hundreds of ad networks) can't? "IPB went so far as to incorporate it into the core in the new version" - can you let me know what that means? Is it as simple as just saying "input your adwords code here"?

One thing I've learned is that there are more ad networks than there are sites out there - just among our hosting customers there are dozens being used, so integrating an ad network with JR is pretty straightforward (usually just a javascript line in your meta.tpl).

The web developers biggest fear is the hacking of a clients site via a broken add-on / module / plugin.
This is hard - I would love to have a large number of 3rd party modules doing all sorts of stuff, but my experience has shown that this is almost never good for the end user. They have to always wonder if the module is coded right, does it have best practices when it comes to security, is it going to be supported, etc. My experience has shown that there are very few 3rd party developers who are in it for the long haul. I know that this may limit Jamroom's growth as there are users who view the 3rd party ecosystem as primarily important, so it's something we will continue to evaluate and see if we want to expend our energy in that direction.

Thanks again for the feedback!

Bridge and group_by option

Proxima

Sorry - should have updated this that I pushed a new version of the Bridge module a couple days ago - you should be able to use group_by and order_by now - i.e.

&group_by=audio_genre&order_by=audio_genre&order_dir=asc
Let me know if that works for you.

Embed Local Media in TinyMCE not working in Chrome on iOS

Using Jamroom

Strumelia:
Monstrosity...lol... Hmm, I use Chrome on my ipad almost exclusively (feelin the love!), and I bet hundreds of my network members do too. Synchs everything, plus my calendar, between all 4 platforms on my ipad, my Macbook, my Android phone, and my PC desktop. I know many folks prefer other browsers, but hey Chrome is pretty broadly used.

Sorry - my response was tongue in cheek - I know a lot of people (unfortunately) use Chrome. As a developer I view Chrome as the new "Internet Explorer 6". People use Chrome because they feel it is fast (and it is), but that speed comes at the expense over very, very aggressive caching that causes issues for site developers.

iOS however does NOT allow different browser rendering engines, so Chrome is actually Safari under the hood, but just has it's own interface, so it SHOULD work. When I get a chance I can check it out, but Chrome on iOS is certainly going to be the minority of users.

Creating a Page

Using Jamroom

pch:
Hi Brian,
What do you say about my reply above?
Thanks

Yes - you can use if statements in your templates to show different tags, etc - that's how you'd want to do it.

A Footer similar to the JR Footer on this site

Using Jamroom

You'll need to just add it to your footer and play around with it - since it is all in the footer ID, should be easy to target with your CSS.

What really helps us is if users take time to write reviews or post about Jamroom - for example, on our Hotscripts listing here:

http://www.hotscripts.com/listing/jamroom-the-powerful-social-media-platform-145720/

having a good rating AND positive reviews really helps a lot.

Also - forum posts (like what you have done Jimmy) really help as well. Any "talk" about JR can help drive traffic in our direction - it all helps :)

Thanks!

TinyMCE inserting line breaks into some list items

Jamroom Developers

Was just checking this out and am not seeing a way to get break tags into the tinymce output. Do you have any custom listeners running that could be adding them in?

Particular Notification option missing?

Using Jamroom

Discussions Updated = discussions that are updated on YOUR profile - do you want to be notified? This allows you as the profile/group owner to be notified of all new discussions WITHOUT having been the one starting the discussion.

Group Watch = specific discussions you have marked to watch - regardless of the profile the group is on - i.e. you want to be notified when a specific discussion is updated on a group you are not admin for.

How to add the who is online for the entire site?

Using Jamroom

The reason it still shows you online is that this function:

jrUser_whos_online()

Gets users that have been active within the last 15 minutes (900) seconds. You can change that by passing in the seconds:

{jrUser_whos_online template=$online_tpl length=600}

This is NOT going to give you an up to the second "whos online" - this is more "users active in last XX seconds".
