syntax error in new Ningja update?

Design and Skin Customization

You're missing the closing {/if} to that if/else - should be right above the check for the master user:

{/if} <-- add this

{if jrUser_is_master()}

Some quick observations on new site builder

Using Jamroom

gary.moncrieff:
Another option could be to add css padding settings in the panel settings area? This in turn could lead to further css customisations via the panel and widget settings areas in long term.

In such that the custom css per widget/panel would only affect said widget/panel.

We actually had custom CSS settings in the container panel settings, but removed it since we felt it took away from what SB should be (easy to use). The problem with having CSS for each container is that if you decide to change it later it can be a lot of work going back through each container and changing it - it would be better to set that style one time in the Style Editor.

If users end up wanting it though, it's definitely something we could look at adding back in.

Thanks!

Some quick observations on new site builder

Using Jamroom

gary.moncrieff:
Hey Guys

Layout is much nicer and will be easier for people to understand.

Padding of site builder elements is more than that of default pages within a skin. To see this enable say elastic skin, look at the main index page, now create a new site builder page with the same 3-6-3 layout as homepage, add widgets and then compare the spacing (padding) between columns.

Thanks Gary!

This is tricky - site builder uses the "item" class, so on some skins this gets the padding doubled while on others (where the item class has no padding) it looks correct. We do have a stub class for the site builder "item", so what I think we need to do is expose it in the Style Editor so the padding coming in from skin can be "overridden" if needed.

I will check that out.

Qustion about what type of site content is allowed on Jamroom hosting

Jamroom Hosting

Zachary Moonshine:
hahaha ok man fair enough im just trying to make sure having a private adult section is ok i have no plans of letting anything illegal be displayed i am a ning user so naturally i am paranoid bare with me guys

As long as it's not illegal or violates our server provider's Terms of Service (which will get the site shut down by our server provider) it's OK with us. We don't want to get into trying to judge what we think is moral or right as that is a slippery slope.

I'm a n00b, and need some help with basic instllation questions..

Installation and Configuration

Lee:
Hi Jamroom community - excited to be building a site using the Jamroom system/framework, my goal is to build a mobile-oreintated music platform..

I'm currently struggling, and after 3-4hrs of googling and searching forums etc, I'm resorting to posting here to ask for help, I hope you can..

So here's my issue; I've used a 1-click install method to install Jamroom to my domain, looking at my control panel with the hosting provider, looking in the file directories I can see that Jamroom has successfully installed.

However everytime I try to log in, using the URL and details emailed to me by the installation wizard, I am taken to the standard hosting providers landing page for sites that are not live, trying to sell me a site builder etc..

I've registered the domain and have hosting with NAMES.CO.UK

I have Linux/Apache Server enables
PHP 5.6
MySQL

I'm sure I'm being dumb, if someone can point out where/how that would very helpful.

Thanks
Lee

Hi Lee - welcome to the forums!

I've actually seen this before on a Scriptaculous install - here's what to check:

1) Make sure in the Jamroom directory you do NOT have an index.php / index.html /index.htm /default.htm file - if you do, remove it.

2) If that still does not work, contact your hosting provider - some of them have a system in place where if it does not see an "index" file it injects it's own - and Jamroom uses a special rule in the .htaccess file as it's index.

Let me know if that helps.

Thanks!

Removing Timeline From Profiles Replacing with Comments

Design and Skin Customization

derrickhand300:
I am sure its useful to some sites but on my all it seems to be used for is "Hey I need a job- hire me" posts and I dont really need them showing up all over my homepage timeline activity thingy...hehehe...Im still confused on this and trying to sort it out on the run here.

Just to be sure you understand how the Timeline works:

1) When viewing your OWN profile you will see your updates + updates for all other users that you follow

2) When another user views YOUR timeline, all they see is YOUR updates - they don't see the updates of users you follow.

So timeline entries for job wanted are only going to be visible to YOU and users if they view the actual profile page for the user that posted it.

You may already know that, just wanted to be sure :)

Removing Timeline From Profiles Replacing with Comments

restmin:
@derrickhand300 I could be interested in this. Is a timeline more of a place where one's posts and his friends posts and such show up, but the comment wall is as described?

A comment wall is just a wall of comments. Think of the user's timeline like a twitter feed - it contains entries for the user's activity on the system.
