Auto Join main chat room

Using Jamroom

Jeff Gilder:
Ok...next question...where do I create the "Public" Chat Room...?

Yeah I couldn't figure that out either.

One question I have:
Paul told me months ago that the JR chat would utilize the same smileys that we might have installed in our site's Smiley Module. Not seeing any emoticons/smileys at all yet...is there a setting to activate them? My big array of (animated gif) Smiley Module smileys would be kind of a deal breaker for chat for me...Cometchat (which I currently use) has a huge selection of smileys. Unfortunately I can't use any chat that doesn't have plenty of fun smileys...my members really would insist on it since they use chat mainly as a fun social thing on my sites.

Brian that sounds like a good improvement to me. I can imagine my members not knowing what to do either in that situation- I think it's good to deposit them right in a default chatroom. :)

Holly, when you go to yoursite.com/event/admin/language
do you not see
"Created a new Event"
and
"Updated an Event" right around lines 32 and 33 or so?

This solution sounds like an improvement from how it is now Brian. I might set it on my own site for something like 24 or 36 hours, actually... so good that we can configure the number of 'minutes' individually for our own sites. :)

Yes, that strikes a chord in my memory Paul! I think we just ran it once and deleted it, like a tool to get rid of 'dead' ning members who had NEVER logged into the new jr site after many months. But it could be immensely useful aside from 'old ning cleanup' as well.

Adding 'by lastlogindate' and 'by quota' would be perfect to add to it ....and then we could all use it to periodically houseclean our sites! :D

Multiple Instances of Documentation Module

Using Jamroom

Ceri, if you have more than 50% of your current JR server (assuming you are using jr Hosting), then you can make a complete copy of your current site on the same server.
1) If not sufficient room, you can temprarily up your server size in your Server control settings- (it will be only for a day or two so will only cost a few dollars and then you can go back to a smaller server size again)
2) If you have more than 50% of your server still empty, you can create a new domain on your server through your server control settings. The domain doesnt have to be real or live or registered- just something you make up- probably best to choose something that doesnt exist on the web though.
3) once you have the new dummy domain set up, you can then go into the domain control settings and "Import an existing JR site" right into it. It won't be live since the domain won't be live, but you'll want to delete all your members except yourself in the next step.
4) after importing, you'll have a non-live duplicate of your live site, in your test dummy domain. It will have all your current members and all their content- so you'll want to DELETE them and their content so you can reduce the server size again.
Also, you want to delete them and turn off notifications like this:
Quote: Is there an easy way to set a test cloned site to make sure that NO notifications go out to ANY of the (cloned) members I've left in place?
Yes - ACP => Mailer module and select that all emails are dumped into the Debug Log instead of being actually sent. This is the first thing I done on any development/test setup.
5) in acp/developer/tools there is a button to then "reset system"- which will remove ALL content and ALL members EXCEPT you the master admin. Your content will be gone too...but all your customizations and site settings will remain intact. Then you can start your testing and create a few test members. Once all that content is cleared out, you'll then see your empty server space and possibly switch back to the smaller cheaper server size.

joanna:...the event should disappear when it finishes not when it starts.

This would be a big improvement. In the past, many JR sites would just have concerts or podcasts etc as Events...and this wouldn't matter so much. But now lots of jr sites are becoming more social including more non-band sites. At least half of the Events on my own site for example are for like 2-5 day festivals/camps/gatherings. It does always feel weird when a friday-sunday event people are discussing suddenly disappears on friday simply because it's already considered to be 'past'.
