why don't private notes show ordered by date?

Using Jamroom

I keep wondering why and finding it mildly annoying that when i go to my Private Messages and click on a thread between me and another memebr, the messages never show in proper sequence ordered by their date. I can't even see any logic in how they are always ordered...see screenshot. Same ordering shows whether the messages are 'expanded' or not.
What am I not understanding?

Forum topics followed

Using Jamroom

Not a way to see their followed topics, but here are a few thoughts to try and ascertain whether they are getting emails sent to them:

You can test whether they ARE being sent notifications by having them post a test post to a topic they are indeed following, and then shortly afterwards, check in TWO places: in your Jamroom Email Delivery Log, and also in your Mailgun logs.

In your MG account, you can punch in the user email and pull up all recent instances of site mail going out to them, and whether they were successfully delivered or had errors.

Sometimes if a mailgun notification gets blocked at the member's receiving end more than once, that address will be put in a 'suspended' category and no more emails will be sent to it by MG- unless you then tell it to begin sending again. You can find this in your MG account area.

If you see the notification has been 'delivered' by looking in your JR mail log, then it's getting filtered to somewhere at the user's end- a spam folder, another folder, or a full mailbox, etc.
Most of the time I have found that the problem is the notification going to a member's spam folder -somewhere that they are not looking.

Did you test sending to their email address outside of the site, to make sure it's working? (if you have the Kickbox module, you can 'test email' there)

Needless to say perhaps, be sure their notification settings are ON.

Also, sometimes a member gets confused by the 'follow' button- clicking it to non-yellow and thinking they are following when in fact they just turned following OFF for that thread.

When a member dies...and their private messages?

Using Jamroom

"I'd suggest that unless there was a very good reason, his private messages ought to stay private, so to achieve that, clone his quota to a 'Memorialised Quota', disable the PrivateNote module for that quota, then move him to it."

Paul- if i did that, would his private messages be automatically deleted for good?, or might I be able to turn the messages back on later ...if for example his son or daughter wanted to have their father's private messages? (sort of like having someone's old letters)

"You would also then have the option of testing for the quota in the profile templates and adding 'Memorialised' next to his name, say."

Paul, I'm not sure I understand what/how you mean about this 'testing'...? Yes I would like to create a Memorialized Quota and I know how to clone off the member quota...but can you clarify the other part you said, and how to add Memorialized next to the profile name in that quota?

"I'd also set his profile to one of the 'followers only' options"

What exactly do you mean by this and what setting are you talking about...and why would this be good?

----------
Sorry to have so many questions!

Micheal- yes thank you understood.

Thanks as well, Dazed.

When a member dies...and their private messages?

Using Jamroom

One of the well liked members of my site, John, suddenly died this week, it's quite sad.
His son has been in touch with me and has joined my site and it now 'following' his father's profile. There's a memorial thread going on, which is comforting to his family.
But my question is this-
I'm not sure about what happens to a deceased member's private messages...? I cannot currently log in as John unless i change John's old password (which I naturally don't know). If I change John's password and then give it to his son, would his son then be able to read John's private messages or not? Or are they totally 'lost' now to his family?
I haven't broached the subject about what to do with John's profile (he has contributed good content to my site for years) with his son, but I wondered about the private messages/inbox left behind when a member dies.

Any thoughts on how folks tend to handle this kind of thing?

Cannot export User CSV file...

Using Jamroom

For what it's worth, I just exported the Profile and user CSVs and had no trouble, with 3000 members.
