Can I Non Techie Do This?

Ning To Jamroom

Lora i used to use skysa chat on my ning- you should take a few minutes to test CometChat- they have a Jamroom specific supported chat- basic $10/month...with video $20/mon. You can test drive it right on their site. My moderator did and he loved it way more than Skysa...I liked it better too. I have not put it on my site yet but I plan to soon. Give it a try and check out their 'Jamroom optimized' live chat test.

P.S. Lora- I am temporarily on the $10/mont shared server on Arvixe only while I'm building my site. It's slooooow but cheap. Will have to move to a less cheap but way faster server before I go live. Frankly, I can not recommend Arvixe. They gave me huge grief when I temporarily had two 30GB ning archives at same time- loaded new one so I could then delete the older one and do a fresher import. They sent me icky notes about using too much space and then cut off my helper when he was just trying to make a copy of the old one before deleting it. It's all too stupid imho...over a lousy 60GB...you could put that on an iPad mini ? Just sayin'.
Anyway, I need a faster option myself. You and I will need a 'managed' server that you will not need to do maintainance on yourself.

Event calendar feature requests

Ning To Jamroom

brian:
Also - I just pushed out a new release of the Event module that moves the small "calendar button" as well as the "attending" button into the item detail and list button configuration (which is where they should be). The calendar image has been updated to be a little more colorful to.

I tried that new icon, which does look nicer, but on the HomeIndex page module, it was way too big- like 4x the size of the previous one, and the event title wrapped in weird places because of it, so I again removed the template line to not show the icon in the home page events module. This was in my custom skin.

Account Name / Member Name confusion (or is it just me?)

Ning To Jamroom

thechocolatelife:
Brain - in Gallery module.
Problem reappears.

Problems are always reappearing for me as well when I leave my brain in the gallery module.
lololol...

My husband's name is Brian and he regularly gets things addressed to "Brain". In fact, when he was a little boy he excitedly sent away for 100 pencils embossed with his name... and they all arrived saying "Brain". lolololol!

Events - Adding Multiple Dates

Suggestions

IMHO... if there's a 3 day weekend festival, and a member clicks to see the calendar view...it just kinda is expected that Fri-Sun will be highlighted on the calendar...not just Friday? I'm thinking this shouldn't have to require code tweaking- that 90% of people would want and expect it on a calender events feature. (ok i duck and run for cover now...)

Should we not be running these tests on a holiday weekend though?- it suggests to run them during 'slow times'.

Duplicate image in first two positions in image galleries

Ning To Jamroom

brian:
I was under the impression that Ning users were not going to want galleries - they want everything to be in a "single" gallery. That is why the Group by Gallery option was added, as well as the ability to bring in all a profile's images to a single gallery on import.
Brian- Ning users use galleries all the time, and love them. Or maybe I'm thinking of 'albums'. (dang!)
The only reason we had asked you to give us the option to import a member's photos all into one place was because the jrImport was putting them ALL into galleries in some odd way that was causing confusion. To get around that, we just asked to import a member's total pix into one lump in their profile, so the members could re-sort them into their proper albums later if they wanted to, and create more albums on their own in the future.
I recall there was some confusion about what was a gallery vs an album...but can't now recall the exact details. But anyway- it wasn't because ning folks don't use them...i think. Wish I could find that thread but oh well. =8-*

I'm gonna blow a gasket . . . If Arvixe Doesn't Get This Fixed Today

Installation and Configuration

Yes agreed. I will not be able to go live until I get my JR site onto a better managed server/host, and I am pretty clueless about the World O' Servers. Looking forward to reading some comparisons/recommendations...espec for managed, for users like me.

Forum

Jamroom Developers

Boy I hope i will understand the whole 'profile forums'/'forums on profiles' thing before I have to decide on this option and go live... I find it to be the most confusing aspect to wrap my head around, and still not really 'getting' how it works right now. :( Will keep reading and maybe a light bulb will turn on at some point.

Good news though, is that I'm getting a little better at making site changes in my templates, and finding my way around to do it... :)

Whoever made the recent improvements to the template compare/edit interface....THANK YOU!- it is SOOOOO much easier now!!

Text transform on profile menu

Ning To Jamroom

If one clicks on "All" in the Events module title, the little calendar icons are there again next to each event title.

Can I Non Techie Do This?

Ning To Jamroom

Lora, I am a 'non-techie'...but I dove in and am learning quite a few things every day simply by reading the forums here...and read the documentation Paul points to.
You can do it! It will take a little time but just keep a notebook and take notes on what you need to learn or change on your site, and focus on one or two things at a time. You will get TONS of help here, from the JR team of 4, and also from other Ning refugees who have been working on their sites here and maybe are farther along than you and had the same questions.
Your site has many beautiful images and it will look and function wonderfully on JR!
You have way more options on setting up member roles and shops here than you do on ning.
Welcome! Rememeber- the first few weeks seem daunting but it gets a little easier every week! :)
