Welcome

Ning To Jamroom

Hi Strumelia - Welcome to Jamroom.
Like I've been saying to guys on the "Early Ning Migrants" topic, take a read of the above documentation first so that you understand what is involved with 'N2JR', then we can work out how best to achieve this for you.

Seamless updates

Design and Skin Customization

Sorry - I seem to have forgot about this. I'll put it on my list again and see how I get on with it this time.
Thanks

Looking for early Ning migrants

Ning To Jamroom

Actually, moving a Jamroom site is pretty easy. See https://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/documentation/howto/1077/howto-change-the-jamroom-directory-or-domain

If you are actually moving servers, as well as moving the files over, you would also need to export, then import the Jamroom database as well.

Any structure and style changes made on Jamroom are made either in the templates, or are saved on the database, dependent upon how the changes are made, but either way, when doing the move as described above, they will follow the Jamroom.

Can I politely ask that any questions like this are asked in a new thread in the 'Questions About Jamroom' category? That way, we can keep threads 'on topic' which makes things easier to find and track for us all down the road :-)
Thanks

When you talk about embedded videos you mean like YouTube?
Jamroom can handle embedded YouTube and Vimeo videos and providing the import script can extract the relevant IDs from your embed code, it will create a similar Jamroom embedded videos where the actual stream comes from YT or Vimeo.
So to answer your question, the embedded videos will not take any significant amount of your server disk space.

Hi @soaringeagle - Thanks for posting
As with @jkn above, I'd suggest that first you read the import documentation so as to understand the process.
I see that at www.greentechnologyforums.com you have already uploaded the Jamroom Core but that it now needs installing. Do you need any help with that? If so, send your site FTP and cPanel logins to support[at]jamroom[dot]com so that I can check it out and do the install for you if you want?

jkn:
I'm very interested in migrating. Also, a 20+ year IT / Data Analyst by day - so that might help a bit. site: http://relaxedmachinery.ning.com

Hi - Thanks for posting.
How big is your Ning site?
Please read though the Ning2Jamroom document at https://www.jamroom.net/ning-to-jamroom/documentation/ning2jamroom so as to understand the import process.
You would need to set up a Jamroom site on some hosting somewhere (we can help with the setup if need be), create an archive of your Ning site and upload that archive to the Jamroom installation, after which we could do the import for you.
Or, as an IT/Data Analyst, you may feel confident to continue with the import yourself following the documentation, which would be a help to us as it would test our documentation as well as the import process.
What do you think?

Using Jamroom

This is all doable within Jamroom but will need a bit of customisation to the skin templates to achieve it.
Once we have your Ning site imported to Jamroom I will work with you on this.

Migrate from Ning to Jamroom

Suggestions

Thanks Ken.
If you can strongly suggest that they register here and use the forum at https://www.jamroom.net/ning-to-jamroom/forum to post any questions they have about N2JR it'll be a lot easier for me to respond to and keep track of potential migrants.

Migrate from Ning to Jamroom

Suggestions

No worries.
I think https://www.jamroom.net/ning-to-jamroom can 'go public' now so if anyone here can check it out and help spread the word, that would be great.

Ning To Jamroom

If you are thinking of migrating from Ning to Jamroom, we are still looking for a few Ning sites to do the migration with as a way of beta testing the process and ironing out any final issues.
Please post here if you interested in helping us out in this way.
Thanks
Pa
