Quick question - what is a profile?

Ning To Jamroom

The Site Builder is still in beta and not part of the Marketplace yet, so yes, when you download them, they are ZIPs and you then have to upload/install them conventionally.
Get them from here - https://www.jamroom.net/ning-to-jamroom

Looking for early Ning migrants

Ning To Jamroom

Yeah - big archives can take days to upload. Not much can be done about that.
But whilst waiting you can install Jamroom and start playing and getting the hang of it.
If you want me to install the Jamroom Core for you, send URL, FTP and cPanel logins to support[at]jamroom[dot]net for my attention

This is great.
As soon as any of you guys have Jamroom installed on a server (let me know if you need any help with that bit) and have your Ning archive uploaded alongside it, let me know and we can do the rest.

final question about migration and 'test" migration

Ning To Jamroom

Originally, eleven years ago, Jamroom was developed as a music CMS.
With the release of Jamroom5 nearly two years ago it was made totally flexible and general purpose. However it is still perceived as, and mostly used for music sites. Hopefully a few new converts from Ning can help change that perception ;-)

That's great. Don't forget to checkout the main Jamroom forum at https://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network to meet up with other helpful JR users :-)

final question about migration and 'test" migration

Ning To Jamroom

Quote: oh and 1 other question i forgot to ask
i have a 2.0 (huge) and 3,0(small) site if the 3.0 achive toolsready in time can the 2 be easily merged into 1 site ..provided that all members that have accounts on both sites were told to use the same login info on both
Sorry forgot your second question.

I've only tried Ning2 archives so far. If Ning3 archives its sites in the same format, merging shouldn't be an issue, but again, we don't know that until we try it for the first time ;-)
So we need to wait and see what a Ning3 archive looks like.

final question about migration and 'test" migration

Ning To Jamroom

I think that option 1 is the easiest and quickest.
The bad news is that I've not actually tried doing a partial import of just new files, but at this time, I don't see why it wouldn't work.
The good news is that this is exactly what I'll be doing for Ken at IndieGospel within the next few days, so hopefully I'll be able to report back here then that it can be done the option 1 way.
Hope that helps

Quick question - what is a profile?

Ning To Jamroom

Hi @iamtimbo - Welcome to Jamroom

Yes - you have it in one!! 'Ning To Jamroom' is actually a profile created by admin on this Jamroom CMS installation. A couple of the other profiles here are https://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network and http://www.jamroom.net/backstage
Additionally, you have your own profile here at https://www.jamroom.net/iamtimbo as do all other individuals who have signed up.
You now need to checkout the Jamroom quota system - see the docs at https://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/documentation/getting-started/693/the-jamroom-quota-system
Different profiles allocated to different quotas give you the mean of assigning different sets of functionality (the Jamroom modules) to different sets of profiles, so profiles on a 'free signup' quota might have limited resources, profiles that are paying you could be moved to another quota that gives them more resources, profiles paying even more money could get even more resources etc. Does that make sense?

So, for what I think you are trying to do, admin could create a profile for every city in the UK - http://yoursite.co.uk/leicester, http://yoursite.co.uk/nottingham (my home town) etc. and each could have its own forum, gallery and other resources. You could even have towns and villages in different quotas. Not sure why you would but that is what the quotas are about !!

Hope that helps
