Embedding a File in a Page

  • Before you start

You can put an item from the site into the text of a page or post: an audio file, a video, a file to download, and so on. The site needs the Editor Embedded Media module, and the text must use the editor.

This example puts a file from File Downloads into a page. It works the same for other items and in other forms with an editor, such as blog posts and Group Pages.

  • Steps

    1. Upload the file first. Add it to your profile, in its section, such as Files. See Adding and Changing Items.
    2. Open the page. Create a new page, or change an existing one with its gear button.
    3. Place the cursor in the text where the file should go.
    4. Click the Embed Local Media button in the editor's toolbar. A dialog opens.
    5. Choose the kind of item, such as Files, on the tabs at the top, find your file, and click Embed this Media. The dialog closes, and a tag such as [jrEmbed module="jrFile" id="5"] is in your text where the cursor was. Don't change the tag.
    6. Save the page.
  • What you should see

When you view the page, the tag is replaced by the file, ready to download. An audio or video item shows a player.

  • If it didn't work

    • No Embed Local Media button: the site doesn't have the module, or it's turned off for the editor. Ask the site's staff.
    • The tag shows as text: the site has turned off Convert Embed Tags. Ask the site's staff.
