groups not displaying right

the groups feature in sitebuilder the sidebar that should be hidden...isnt
the discussions and pages that should be visible.. are hidden

additionaly there are other group changes that need to be done unrelated to sitebuilder but site builder causes seerius probblems with group usability..in short all that can be seen is a comment wall nothing else (well group image name and description too)


besides the discussions andd pages being seeen, the sidebar and profile header..the profile menu up should be hifdden
the 'follow' you see now follows the profile, not the group
a group follow needs to be added


oh yes in sitebuilder you also sdont see the members list...all you see is the info box and comment wall


comments and discussions need pagination

There is no groups feature in Site Builder system.

I think your talking about the your-site.com/groups url on the jrNingja skin.

That URL is provided by the jrGroups module. Unless I'm mis-understanding.

If your meaning the export of the home page differs from the current setup of the non-site-builder system, then it might need some updating. I'll check that out.

i believe that is what i mean give me a few min to test disabling sitebuilder and taking comparison screenshots
i know in sitebuilder u cannot rewdit the groups
i think theres just a conflict in the skin when the site builders enabled but let me do a few tests and get right back to u ill be thorough disabling all sb features then turning on 1 at a time

ok after thourough testing i have come to the conclusion that this very well might be relaterd to all the unchecked "modified" templates in the last 2 ningja skin updates
both times there were a dozen that said modified by me...as i upgraded before ii cloned and before anythjing was changed
1 of wich was the 404 wich i did a comparew both checked and unchecked and they were the same as every 404

i was then told to reset them

heres the odd thing
earlier today i had to hunt around for a {debug} that i left behind and triggered on my profile pages i found it and removed it...in my cloned skin

now i switched to the unedited freshly updated ninja skin that i had reset all those unchecked checkmarks on....and guess what not only does the groups still not worrk right
with all sitebuilder modules shut off

but that debugs triggering on my profile ..only in the untouched default ninja skin not in the edited one

so im really thinking something went wrong with the last 2 upgrades toi ningja
all these unchecked "modified" pages that were reset
i have a strong suspicion that strumelia just left them unchecked and didnt reset thats why she sees the groups right and i didnt

something bothered me about just resetting those without 1st comparing the checked vs unchecked version but since the 404 didnt change a thing wether checked or not i didnt bother testing the rest

im really thinking thats the case and what i might do...is rename ningja via ftp ande try to get a fresh install instead of upgrade and just see ...

i will get toi the bottom of this

to be thourough i unchecked my jrgroups changes (just adding the module searches)


the fact that debug triggers in the totaly unmodified ningja skin is extremely suspicious..and confusing

Look for the {debug} in the template editor. Its very unlikely to come from the default packaged skin because the skin packager checks for that and removes it when its uploaded to the marketplace.

There is a new compare system that should help compare templates coming out soon. Just needs to be checked and approved. That should help compare files that have been changed via the template editor.

ok heres how thourough i was i disabled 1 sitebuilder modiule at a time tested it i unchecked my group customizations tested it i tested it in default ninja skin i got that odd debug
i renamed the jrningja folder and reinstalled it tested it got that odd debug i went and cloned the newly uinstalled skin and checked all the unchecked checkboxes and tested it and gotrt that oidd debug
i re-enabled my customized skin wich took me a good bit of hunting to find that odd debug in and remove it but that seems to be packaged into the skin along with all the odd unchecked chyeckboxes

now im so confused
cause strumelia sees heres diferent then i see mine maybe she hasnt upgraded i dont know

but can u post a screenshot of what the groups should look like now

in hers there was no profile sidebar
there was something that said discussions..i have none
and on the side it said pages i dont have that eitther
only comment wall nothing else
oh yea i disablesd profile tweaks as well

i dug as deep as i could into this and i just cant find it
i search my7 code for "page" or " discuss" and the only occurances are within the post text itself
no t0op discussions no pages
no way to add a discussion or page


my next imoport im thinking of wipoinmg members (so my comments end up in my profile not profile 1) photos to get the titles ..and grooups and pages and see if a wipe and reimport fixes them


but id also like you to take a look and see if you can find any reason why my sites behaving diferently from strumelias (besides the size diference)

andthe fact that iu think shes never cloined the skin and only did minor changes to the default skin

im especialy stumped that i doint see discussions in a frewshly installed ninja and those weird checkboxes and the debug .. ps srry for the long posts trying to be thourough and ill find that debug for u in the new version ..well for douuglass..
somethings definately been odd with the upgrade

its unfortunate i hadnt looked into the groups enough to notice if the missing peices were ever there .. hmm if i rename the previos versions of ningja would they show up in the list and i can test em....
let me try...
well ill look for the debug and look for a version that the groups worked right in

well

thats the odd part as the debugs not in my customized skin but is in the packaged 1
and when i found it it was likke in the middle of a block of code i think in an if/else type statelemnt and when i have used it nearly every time i put it at the top or bottom of the code ..if not rigtht at top then afyter any includes i cant think of one time i ever stuck it in the middle like that

its very odd

and i was right in reemembering wheree it was after the h3 in the profile sidebar and the sidebar i thinks whats messing up the groups...

see it was the 1st i checked cause i remember it took so long to find cause it was the last i checked before...see it right there after the h3

and i really think this might be somehow messin with the group since the sidebar shouldnt be shown but pages and discussioins shiould be


srry i thought it was a sittebuilder issue when it was a skin issue all along

went back to 1.0.8 still seeing the same thing except in 1.0.8 i also see the profile stats..wich im not seeing in 1.0.10
unfortunately only have a customized version i tried downloading 1.0.9 and uploading its contents into a diferentlly named folder but it broke the skin admin and couldnt access it till i deleted the files
wish there was a way to go back and test it on an uncustomized version prior to 1.0.9


btw thnx for taking the time to check in on xmass...most unexpected

srry bout the post overload but just had a thought.;.u put out sooo many updates so fast its hard to keep track but iknow there were 2 core releases not too long ago but wasnt there a marketplace module update too?

was thinking that if the packager checks for debugs sholdnt it also check for unapplied changes
and the fact a debug got buy it as well as all those unchecked boxes maybe the flaws in the marketplace updater?

cause although strumelias groups work her dev tools cloner etc werent working right so im wondering if the updates arent updating cleanly

Maybe this info will help clarify and help solve the mysteries somehow:

--All my modules, core, and Ningja skin have been kept up to date...1.0.10.
--I have not been using Site Builder at all.
--I have made very few customizations on my site so far- mostly just header links changes, module titles, background page color.
--Attached is my current main Groups page, on Ningja skin (not on a clone), with my notes on what I'd like to see gone as far as the personal profile info of the person who created each group still showing prominently across the top of each Group page.
--I saw a handful of those "modified/reset" indications after the previous Ningja update, but not nearly as many as SE did, and as recommended I reset them, so they are now gone. First I looked at them in Compare and could not see any mods that I had done. So, after restting those few after the last Ningja update, the only "reset" buttons I see now on my current Ningja skin are for the 3 templates I did modify (see my very few and simple mods as described above) and I am seeing my mods accurately in the 'compare' view. So no problems there anymore.

And yes as SE mentions, my problem is with the DevTools skin cloner- I can make a clone of my current modified Ningja skin, and I look at the clone code and it shows all my customizations. BUT- when I ACTIVATE that clone as the active skin, it does NOT show the customizations on my site- it shows the site as though I had a non-customized Ningja skin going. This is frustrating because it means I cannot do as you all suggest, which is clone the skin and only make modifications to the clone, not the main Ningja skin. I cannot do that because I can't set my clone as the active skin since my site won't show my mods when its activated. Thus, I have to keep making modif.'s to my active Ningja skin, not to my cloned skins. I gotta solve this clone problem somehow eventually. I need to be able to make a cloned skin that I can activate and USE, and have the skin's customizations show up on my site. As it is now, I only use the clone to keep a copy of my code modifications, so I can copy/paste them one by one into each new updated Ningja skin version every time Ningja gets updated. --You can ignore this bit about my cloning issue as i'm going to now add it to my thread on that issue in the ning-to-JR forum. But I thought maybe it had some bearing in the groups issue SE is talking about here.

but heres the thing
your suposed to clone the default upgraded skin in a clean state then you compare that clean unmodified clone to your last clone and adsd back in your changes
though if u clone a already cloned and modified skin it sure does copy your changes..just not your css wicfh you then have to copy over as well as any cusome created templates it might be set to only clone the default skinds in that clean state so that you always know you have a good base to work from
so go ahead and clone your skin copy your mods ovver using the compare feature then from now on every update u clone the update do a compare against your previos modified skin and add your mods to the new clone

if i designed the dev tools id design them to only clone the installed skins clean unmodified that way you know they will always work cause if u screw up your default skin it can be hard to fix but if u just clone it to a new 1 u start fresh and then re-add your code peice by peice testing each addition

Are you sure it isn't simply that you are seeing the profile info in the SIDE bar while I am seeing it along the TOP?

strum after the upgrade do u get a debug window popup wheneveryou view a profile

if u dont and i do theres definately something odd going on in the upgrade process

see thats the weirdest thing cause the debug was included in the profilke sidebar template when i updated and even afdter i deleted jrninja and re-installed

do me a favor open themodifuy template for the profile sidebar and do control f and type debug

or just copy and pastethe code here ( put code in

? kinda need to know to diagnose you see when i downloaded 1.0.10 wether updated or a fresh install that debug is in the code...every time so need to figure out why whats going wrong with the update or install process thats causing these weird anomalies

u know what i'm going to install a clean jr install on a subdomain for testing and ask paul to addthe ning package that way i can see the behavior on a completely clean install

Theres been a new check put in place. I was wrong. I though it checked for {debug} in the templates when skins were uploaded to the marketplace.

Turns out it only checked for fdebug() and debug() in .php files not {debug} in .tpl files.

A fix has been put in place to prevent it from happening in the future and now {debug} will be checked for going forward.

The marketplace template has been updated so the template with {debug} in it has been sorted out.

none at all but was driving me crazy trying to figure out why strum didnt have it

but
figuring out that damn debug thing got me to fix my groups!
what a stupid mistake that was i was trying to find what that template affected and added a h1 where the heck am i
left it checked and therefore no updated group stuff affected that template see we both missed silly lil things

figuring out yours figured out mine too

so thank you for making a mistake it eventualy helped me out alot!
