solved Can the Like module be tweaked to act smarter in groups?

Because i am the person who has created the majority of "Groups" on my site, I keep running into a little barrier that i wonder if could be adjusted?

When I 'own' (created) a Group, and various site members create discussions in that group, the 'Like' module will not allow me to Like any of THEIR discussions because it gives me the error message that I am "not allowed to Like my own items".

I think it'd be good for the Like module to understand that those various members' discussions in my group are not 'my' items. It effects me a lot because I have created by far most of my site's groups, and also by far most of the discussions in all the groups are NOT created by me, but by other members

This change would allow me to make members more aware of some of the better group discussions on my site...it would give those discussions a boost in the Activity Timeline on the main page, without my having to concoct superficial 'bump' posts to make in those discussions just to draw attention to them.
Thanks for considering this issue!

Sorry for the delay on this - In the Like module quota settings you can allow 'self likings'. Would that help?

Hi Paul. Well, it's always pretty lame when people "Like" all their own stuff- but would be especially a disaster when people discover they can ...and then they'd proceed to 'Like' 100 of their own videos all in a row...yikes- I can just envision THAT on my site's activity feed... =8-(
I would really like to stay away from allowing folks to Like their own content.

My issue is that I created almost all the site's Groups (by design and by need), the groups are for the members to use, not for my own use. ...yet I cannot Like any of my site member's content in those 50 or so groups, ....simply because i created the group. It's preventing me from giving lots of great content the visibility 'bump' they deserve - I'm running into the wall just about every day.

I view the real problem as being that the Like module sees all members' discussions in a group as being items I created. But I didn't create those items, other members did.

Let me check this out. I'm pretty sure that group discussions are 'owned' by the parent group, so that could well be the issue.
