Email courses

The email courses module provided as a Communication tool has a simple on/off activation check box with no option to configure for specific quotas.

For different member categories (in different quotas) it would be useful to be able to offer different courses, or no course at all.

At the moment, when switched on, access to the course module appears as a tab in the profile settings of every member, regardless of their quota.

Is it possible to add quota config options to this module?

This might make the module more useful for more sites.

The module does include a smarty template call that provides a course joining form, so maybe if you built a page that describes each course and then uses this form, but wrapping each in a user quota test, so only specific courses show to specific users, that would do what you want?
Thanks

A possible use I am thinking of, for an email course, is a step-by-step series of screenshots with texts to explain key areas of our network, and how to use them.

One example could be presented as a "Refresher course" for members who joined a long time ago, but have not visited recently.

Another could be presented as "Introduction course" for new members, in the current signup quota.

I'm thinking, alongside this, that in each new year I should create a new signup quota for the year (by cloning and renaming the signup quota settings of the previous year), so that I can separate the messages sent to all members, older members, and new members, when using the email newsletter (push) system, or the email course (pull) system.

At the moment I have no urgent material to offer members... I am just trying to understand how the email course system works, and how it can be used to target specific member categories (quotas).

Thanks
