changing default profile image

So sorry, i used to know how to do this but...I forgot where exactly. d'oh!
I'm trying to change the default.png image for new users who create accounts but don't upload a profile image. SEE my screenshot- I changed it in my User Accounts module, then saved and cleared cache. Then I created a new user without uploading a profile pic, signed up, ...and the old default.png was applied again. In my screenshot, it's showing the correct/NEW .png image.
Am I changing it in the wrong place?
I'm missing WHERE to change this image file. I made it the same size and file name as the old one, but it's not replacing it. Do I need to go into my server and directly switch the images?- if so, where?
Thanks!

If your referring to the typewriter image, you'll want to change that in the ACP > Media > Image Support > Images tab.

Ah YES!!! I remember now... thank you!

Now, please tell me if the following that I;m thinking is all correct:

(knowing that my site is not live yet and will be imported in the next couple of weeks from Ning to finally go live, and I've been working with an old imported ning archive)

That change will now apply the new profile image to all NEW members who join. My current (non live) members all remain with their old images they brought with them from ning.
BUT... all 4500 members who get imported from ning will bring their default ning profile image with them as 'their' individual profile image, so they would not have the new image...meaning they would still have typewriter profile pix.... UNLESS before the 'go live' ning archive is made, I change the NING default image to my new one on my Ning network. Then I would download the final ning archive and they'd get ported over with their NEW image and I could go forward from there. I 'think' that's how it works for this scenario...?

I've just changed the NingImport module so when importing members, if their image is less than 10K in size it'll assume this is a default image and not import it, so those members, when imported, will pick up JR's default profile image.
(If your Ning default image is greater than 10K we can fine tune the import script if need be!!)

That's a cool adjustment Paul, and I think will help many ning migrants (if their default ning profile image is truly that small). I wonder if one might be able to finetune the import to the SAME specific number of kb that one sees in the archive for the default image that was set in Ning. That would be finetuning indeed!

Since I have not gone live yet, I solved my own issue already by changing the default image in my ning site before the final archive. However, if doing this, be aware that once it's imported and live on JR, I'm guessing you will again be 'stuck' with whatever image you chose for those ning import members...unless they upload their own new ones...or unless you try to change them yourself one at a time... =8-*

Well we could look in the archive and set the importer to reject member images of a specific size on the assumption that that would definately be the default image. If you did this those profiles would use the Jamroom default instead, so that could be changed at any time.

That's VERY cool Paul, and would be the ideal choice so the admin could change their default anytime going into the future, to match all the other post-migration members. Maybe we can do this on my upcoming migration? :)

This issue is something people should be aware of I think...considering one gets 'stuck' with looking at these images untold thousands of times for years to come. I myself have thousands of them on my network, all identical.
