solved Using the private groups feature?

If i set a group to private but in my admin settings i have members able to join groups just by commenting will this override the fact that a group is private? or will it the members still need to be approved ?

A private group should remain private regardless of other settings. Let us know if this isn't what you are seeing.

Zach be sure to test the privacy of your group before you 'depend' on it with sensitive info. Log in as a regular member to make sure what the user experience is from different quotas. And always keep in mind that as an Admin you can always see and access more content on the site than non-admin members.
