It has been awhile, but at one time did JR have an advanced search function?

Jazz Clubs
+ location = New York

Is it possible to do this in v6?

I'm not sure what you mean here - jrCore_list can already filter on multiple keys. Can you clarify what you're trying to do?

Basically, on the global search results page, I would like the option to filter search results by the profile_location that created the item.

Example: global search=jazz clubs
Global Search results show all blogs, events, etc for "Jazz Clubs" - option at the top of the page says "filter by location" - text entry or pull down selection of US cities. [filter now] button refines the search results

Does that make more sense?

You will have to build something custom for this - there is no simple way to further refine the search results like you want.
