Within this module can I set a "do not email" flag to a profile so that members can opt-out of receiving these emails?

When logged in, all users have a 'notifications' page where they can set their email/private note preferences for every communication that they might get from Jamroom.

So, can I send broadcast messages from Jamroom as you can from Ning?

This is for sending a newsletter (email) - I'm not sure what Ning calls a "broadcast message", but I have feeling that this is what you're looking for.

Good question.

A cool feature at Ning was that as admin- if you posted content-say an article or something you had an option to share it with members via a pop up box- you could select members to send it to OR you could select all members...then hit send- what it would do is send the article in an email formatted for that email so it looked good...( truncated version) i was all the time sharing new site content this way and it REALLY kept the site was quite a bit different than sending a newsletter here....Its been a few years and I actually think "Broadcast message" was different but I cant exactly remember...Hope this helps

Sounds similar to the "Invitations" module:
