New user sign up notification

Using Jamroom

What I find is that when i first get an email notice saying "A New User has just signed up on fotmd.com!"... it shows the new user's name, email address, and IP address.
Then i copy the IP from the email, check it's location, compare it to that pending member's profile stated location, and usually approve them.

Right after they become approved by me, I immediately receive a second identical email, saying again: "A New User has just signed up on fotmd.com!"... it shows the new user's name, email address, and IP address. EXCEPT...the IP address now listed for that member is my OWN personal IP address.
This can indeed be confusing, but I've learned to ignore it.

White agancy- check that perhaps that second 'different' IP address in those 'new user' email notifications after approval are maybe the IPs of whichever admin approved the new user.

Using Smileys?

Using Jamroom

Collect copies of animated gifs or .pngs in a folder on your computer. One at a time, DRAG the smiley image file and drop it into the lower textbox at bottom of smiley window.
Then add the two text labels in the format of my screenshot. Click add. On to the next one.

No, you cannot set for each smiley size. I find the setting of 20px is good all around. It allows some of my smileys to be a little larger than others, or wider. But you don't want smileys to take up lots of space as they will push the text around and the post will start to look weird with big gaps between lines. 20 or maybe 24px should be decent sized but practical.

Cometchat, does anyone have it installed and working properly ?

Off Topic

As far as i can tell from reading your posts, you have done a few things differently than the usual sequence of starting up your site- sort of rushing through things before you have them set up properly. Nothing terribly 'wrong' with that..but the Chat techs might be confused by something as you have it set up. As far as I know, your entire "ccCometChat" folder should be sitting inside your "sites/site.com/public_html/modules" folder.

Don't fuss with or move anything they install. Just ask them if they have it installed and working. Then see if it's working. Then do a ticket on the glitches- and approach one chat glitch at a time.

test site migrating 3.0 ning site

Ning To Jamroom

While you're there, can you make it more obvious that those ugly green boxes are actually links? I'm not exactly stupid but it took me a looong time to realize the text-filled green boxes WERE the links.
I mentioned this elsewhere, that page is where prospective ning customers will be looking and (no offense intended) the whole page looks pretty '90s...the clunky bold type, oppressive and loud rather than confidence inspiring. Something cleaner, more modern airy looking perhaps? Doesn't need much, just a fresh face. ;)

test site migrating 3.0 ning site

Ning To Jamroom

Hey Paul, you should update this page: https://www.jamroom.net/ning-to-jamroom

so that it reflects the new ability for Jamroom to import all MEMBERS from a ning 3.0 .csv file into a jamroom site. That's a big thing, IMHO. Right now with its asterisk* note, that page totally dismisses any options for 3.0 ning owners.

woo-HOOOO! FREEDOM!

Ning To Jamroom

It's a wonderful thing, especially good for people in the future who are currently very unhappy and can eventually wind up building terrific new sites in Jamroom.
But also good not to have lost all my posts from like two years ago or more as well. I'm just glad the Ning techs were able (and willing) to restore my contributions.

Quota signup

Using Jamroom

Go to your Modules--> User Accounts --> Quota Config tab

Then select each quota one at a time in the "Selected Quota' dropdown menu, and for each quota you either check or uncheck the "allow signups" box.

In my network for example, I only have that box checked for "Member quota".
When people sign up, they will ONLY see the quotas that are checked to allow signups. They WON'T SEE the other quota choices that are unavailable to them.

Remember you can always change a member's quota later on after they've joined, if you want to make them a profile admin (moderator) for example. Or make them back to a regular member.

Yes only a matter of time and asking them to do one thing at a time. Remember they are in India- different time zone completely. Yes, create a test member- a regular member...AND ALSO create an admin test member they can use. They will need access to your server. Change your server password when all is done...likely at least two weeks from now.
You may find another issue- when you login to your site as your test member- see if the chat works for you- if you get a chat error saying saying yu need to log in to use chat, but you ARE logged in...then that's the last glitch they just fixed for me a few days ago.
