  • Upgrading Jamroom 5 to Jamroom 6

    Upgrading an existing Jamroom 5 system to Jamroom 6 is a very straightforward process, but does involve an extra step or two that you may not have been doing when upgrading between versions of Jamroom 5 (say from Jamroom 5.2 to 5.3).

    Make sure and follow the steps outlined in this guide and you'll be up and running Jamroom 6 in no time.

  • Step 1: Maintenance Mode

    The first step in upgrading to Jamroom 6 is an OPTIONAL one, but if you are running a large Jamroom site it is highly recommended. On really large Jamroom sites the upgrade could to 15 to 20 minutes to complete - during this time your users could see errors on the site, so it's best to put your site in Maintenance Mode.

  • Step 2: Upgrade the System Core from the Marketplace

    The next step is to upgrade the System Core from the Marketplace:

    ACP -> Core -> Marketplace -> System Updates

    Click on the "upgrade" button for the Jamroom Core and the upgrade will install.

    DO NOT install other upgrades to modules at this point!

  • Step 3: Run an Integrity Check

    Next we want to run an Integrity Check.

    ACP -> Core -> Core -> Tools -> Integrity Check

    This will kick off some low level database schema update code that will do some work on the underlying database tables on your site. This could take up to 15 minutes or so to run on very large sites, so please be patient.

    If you feel that the Integrity Check has "paused" you can refresh and re-run it.

  • Step 4: Upgrade modules and skins in the Marketplace

    Once the Integrity Check has finished, head back over to the Marketplace:

    ACP -> Core -> Marketplace -> System Updates.

    We recommend that you FIRST update the "Marketplace" module, then reset caches, THEN install the rest of the module and skin updates.

  • Step 5: Run an Integrity Check again

    Next we want to run the Integrity Check a second time - this ensures the new database updates in the module updates are applied to the system.

    When complete, reset caches:

    ACP -> Core -> Core -> Tools -> Reset Caches

  • Step 6: Add Timeline template customizations (optional)

    This step is optional and will only apply to sites that are using a custom version of the jrAction_item_list.tpl file.

    With Jamroom 6 there are a significant number of changes to the Timeline module - if you have customized your skin to use a custom list template for jrAction list calls, then you'l need to being in the new template changes found in the Timeline -> Templates -> item_list.tpl file.
