Setting Up the Exporter

Applies to: Jamroom 7.0+ Last verified: 2026-10-24
  • Before you start

Install Exporter from the Marketplace (beta channel) on the site you're exporting from, and activate it. It's in ACP > Modules > Tools > Exporter.

  • Global Config

    Setting What it does
Active Plugin The source to export: Jamroom, Ning3 or CSV
JSON File Chunks Items per JSON file (default 1000). Large exports are split into several files, which import more reliably.
Site Access Key A key of your choice. Enter the same key in the Importer, so the two sites can exchange files.
File Key A random key, part of every JSON file name, so the files can't be guessed. It's set for you.

Save, then the Plugin Config tab shows the active plugin's settings, and Create JSON Files creates the files.

  • Where the files go

The JSON files are saved in data/cache/jrExporter on the source site. The Importer downloads them from there, with the Site Access Key. Media files are downloaded from the source site in the same way.

  • Tools

    On the Tools tab:

    • Review Created JSONs shows the contents of a JSON file, to check it before importing.
    • Delete Created JSONs deletes JSON files, for example before a new export.

Resetting the caches doesn't delete them, but you should delete them when the import is done.
