What it does
Groups (module
jrGroup, shown in the ACP as Groups Core) lets profiles create groups that members can join, such as a book club or a local chapter. A group has a title, description, image, member list and a comment wall. Group Discussions and Group Pages add discussion boards and pages to it.ACP > Modules > Groups > Groups Core

Where groups live
Groups belong to a profile, like other items. A group's address looks like
yoursite.com/(profile)/group/6/book-club.To keep all groups in one place, create a profile such as community and put it in a quota of its own. Then let only that quota create groups. The addresses become
yoursite.com/community/group/.... -
Setting it up
In Quota Config, check Allowed on Profile for the quotas whose profiles may create groups. Members of any quota can join groups.

Creating a group
On the profile's Groups section, click Create New Group:
Field What it does Group Title, Description, Group Image What members see Allow Applicants Shows a Join Group button, so users can join Private Group Only members can see the group. It isn't shown in lists, except to members and admins. Anyone with the address sees a request to apply. Allow Comment Wall Shows a comment wall on the group page Featured Shows the group in the featured part of group lists -
Members
- Public group: Join Group makes the user a member at once.
- Private group: joining sends an application. The group's owner gets a notice, and approves or rejects it under Group Applications.
- Members can leave with Leave Group. Their groups are listed under My Groups.
The owner can open a member's settings from the member list to:
- make them active or inactive
- allow them to create discussions (allowed by default)
- allow them to create pages (not allowed by default)
Group owners and admins can always do everything.
Members are notified of new comments on their groups, and owners of applications and members leaving, as each user chooses in their Notifications settings.
