I am wondering about setting up a single login and password and giving that to multiple users. Are there any known issues with doing this? My thought is that it could be a temporary way to grant access to a select group of users and then just change the password each month.

Nothing wrong in principle, I think, in that they could be logged in at the same time, but the practicalities? They would all be sharing the same profile and could counter each others actions.
What are you trying to achieve? - We might be able to suggest a better way.

I have over 100 artists who have songs in the system. I'd like for them to be able to see the charts and their artist page. I can't allow public access to the site because of the download issue. I don't want the artists to be able to make changes to their pages.

The ideal solution would be a class of users who could view everything but not be able to download the music. Or limit downloads to a single profile group?

The reason I thought of this one user/one password solution was that I could change it and it would be a temporary way to let them see their stuff.

I can already see the potential problems with this in that I can't control them from going in and making changes to the single account and locking each other out.... so ... I don't know...

Just curious why there wasn't an option in the audio module to allow downloads to specific quota/profile users? Why the all or none option? That really killed JR5 for our use. JR3 and JR4 both had workable solutions for us.

Can't you just limit site access to logged in users (User=>Site Privacy) ?

That's what we are doing now. I have 2 user groups. DJ's who have full access to stream and download music. I also have the artists who I'd like to be able to let see the charts and community page but I do not want them having access to stream and download the music. They'd be streaming and downloading their own stuff all day long to try to manipulate the charts. In the past everyone could see all the pages and only a user who was logged in could access the music.

Now you have to kill the music streaming/downloading for everyone who is not logged in. That would be fine but the only solution is prevent them from seeing anything but the main page.

Would the User Daily Limits module do this? I may have to test that option out...

This thing comes so close to accomplishing what I need. It will at least let me limit the streams and downloads to 1 per day. I think I can live with that. It would have been great if we could have it so that you could allow 0 downloads or streams for a particular quota. That would be exactly what I would have needed! Could we request that in any future update?

We can check it out. In the meantime you can always disable downloads by quota within the templates.

@paul I spent many hours attempting that but sadly I had no success with it. :(

You can disable the "download" button on audio detail and list pages by clicking on t he "Configure these buttons and the order they appear in", and for the audio download button just restrict it to the quotas you want.
