I Updated and My Changes Are Gone

  • Your changes aren't lost

    If you updated through the Marketplace, your changed files are still on the server. They're just not used any more.

    The Marketplace installs each version of a module or skin in its own folder, and points the normal folder name to the new one. On your server, in modules/ (or skins/), you see something like:

    jrAudio -> jrAudio-release-1.1.0
    jrAudio-release-1.1.0
    jrAudio-release-1.0.3
  • jrAudio is a link to the active version. Your changes are in the older folder, here jrAudio-release-1.0.3. Copy them from there.

    If you uploaded the new version over the old one with FTP instead, the old files were replaced. Then only a backup has them.

  • Why it happened

    The changes were made in the module's or skin's own files. Updates replace those. To make changes that survive updates:

    • Change a clone of the skin, not the skin. See Cloning a Skin.
    • Change a module's template from your skin. To change modules/jrAudio/templates/item_detail.tpl, put your version in your cloned skin as jrAudio_item_detail.tpl. The skin's copy is used instead of the module's. See Changing How a List Looks.
    • Or use the Template Editor. Changes made there are saved in the database, and Compare shows what an update changed. See Using the Template Editor.
