Upgrading from Jamroom 5 or 6

Applies to: Jamroom 7.0+ Last verified: 2026-10-24
  • Before you start

Updating Jamroom 6 to 7, or within Jamroom 7, is a normal Marketplace update: see Keeping Jamroom Up to Date. This page is for a site still on Jamroom 5, or one that hasn't been updated for a long time.

    • Back up the site: files and database. See DB and System Backup.
    • Check PHP: Jamroom 7 needs PHP 7.2 or newer. See Server Requirements.
    • Customized templates: changes made in a skin's or module's own files will be replaced. Move them to a cloned skin first. See Cloning a Skin.
  • Steps

    1. Turn on Maintenance Mode on a large site, so visitors don't see errors while the database is updated. See Maintenance Mode.
    2. Update the System Core only: ACP > Modules > Core > Marketplace > System Updates, and update System Core. Don't update other modules yet.
    3. Run an Integrity Check (ACP > Modules > Core > System Core > Tools > Integrity Check). It updates the database tables. On a large site this can take 15 minutes or more. If it seems to stop, reload and run it again.
    4. Update the Marketplace module in System Updates, then reset the caches.
    5. Update everything else in System Updates: modules and skins.
    6. Run the Integrity Check again, then Reset Caches.
    7. Turn off Maintenance Mode, and check the site.
  • If your skin has its own Timeline template

Jamroom 6 changed the Timeline a lot. If your skin overrides the Timeline list (jrAction_item_list.tpl), compare it with the new item_list.tpl on ACP > Modules > Profiles > Timeline > Templates, and bring the changes in. See Keeping a Cloned Skin Up to Date.

  • From Jamroom 4

Jamroom 4 can't be updated: its content is imported into a new site. See Jamroom 4 Import.
